I had little Heidi out and she bit herself a few times (well mostly in the areas I was just stroking) But I'm a little worried incase she may have caught Toby's mites? His cage is on top of hers and his second ivermectin treatment is this friday... Am I being a totally paranoid piggy mum or could there be more to it?

Sorry for another post :P

Heidi won't have caught mites from Toby (I mean this in the nicest way) Hopefully you are being paranoid just obviously keep an eye on her:)

I third that, they cannot be caught from another guinea. You are probably a new anxious mum :(|)

aww could be lice? not being mean.your probably just a over worried mummy

I checked her fur and didn't see any maybe I should shampoo her just incase :^- Can't they ever just occasionally scratch and bite themselves without being a parasite? Like dogs scratch themselves occasionally?

If she is biting herself especially after you have just touched her,it is possible that she does have mites. She would not have caught them from another piggy but they can be caused by stress such as going to a new home.If she is a particularly nervous piggy this could happen.Have you seen her scratching and are there any scabs or sores on her back>?, does the hair have any "dandruff" or "dust" on it. Piggies do scratch when they groom and sometimes bite but keep a close eye on her.If you see her biting again and if she appears to be a bit agitated, take her to a vet for Ivermectin.

My piggie did bite and scratch occasionally but nothing out of the ordinary. Is it possible she might have sensitive skin. My cat does and she scratches all the time (probably eczema).
