Sow with 4 nipples...

Well, whilst carrying out my checks on the pigs with mange yesterday, I discovered quite a strange thing...little Custard seems to have 4 nipples!

Quite hard to see in the photo but there are definitely two more above the two "main ones"
I know nothing about her history, though the state they arrived in, it wouldn't surprise me if she is inbred. I'm not even sure they all function as nipples or not, and I am 90% sure she isn't pregnant, so I won't find out, thankfully
But how strange!

I must admit that I have heard of it happening, but have never seen one!

A few of my sows that had 7 and 8 babies could have done with a few extra! Never understood why they give birth to so many, with only two nipples. x

I had a 4 year old sow who came in for rehoming and she had 4 nipples - 2 'normal', 2 smaller

It's probs a genetic defect from inbreeding or something like that. You would probs also find that the extra nipples don't "work" like the others do. Just like people who get 3 or 4 nipples too.

It mightn't be inbreeding, I have a friend who was born with four nipples (he got them removed as a kid but has two little scars) and I don't think he is inbred

Though we live in the countryside in Ireland, I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of inbreeding goes on here, everyone's related! . . . not in my family though cos my dad is english!
