any discharge from the genitals should be a vets visit as it could be an infection

OK thankyou, I was wondering if it was just a mucous plug or something normal, if not looks like another vets visit 🤦‍♀️

You could clean her with some warm water and a flannel or cotton pad and see if it comes back. The only time I have had one with thick white mucus it was a suspected womb infection which she had antibiotics for. Does she live alone?

She lives with another sow, who is 100% healthy and never had any problems, ill clean it and recheck in. An hour xx

I was wondering whether she was with a neutered male because the males produce thick white stuff too :)) obviously rules out that then

Discharge seems less but her tummy is tender again, she had an x Ray around 4 weeks ago for a tender tummy and it was clear other than gas (hence the soft poop problem)

Haha no, they have been scrapping a lot lately Though and very humpy 🤦‍♀️

Ok, I'm not sure but that's probably one of them being in season. I would clean it off and then check several times over the next couple of days. If it doesn't reoccur perhaps it was one of those things but if it does it's better to be safe than sorry

Hmm if there are pain signs then I would get her checked out for definite. X-rays don't show everything unfortunately so your vet may want to do other investigations. It could be that something else caused her to be gassy. It could be a womb infection or it could be another issue with the reproductive or urinary system

It's like they are permenantly in season atm, I think it's a dominance thing since nuggets had a poorly tummy, fluffy seems to be constantly at her 🤦‍♀️

Is it the one who doesn't have discharge that is humping? Sometimes if they know the other piggy is ill they will challenge the hierarchy to become top pig. If the "ill" piggy is the one who is apparently in season all the time that would indicate ovarian cysts and could well be worth having an ultrasound to clarify

I need to pop a picture of my late cat to the vets for their memorial book so I will ask while there whether it's anything to be concerned about and show the picture of the discharge 🙈

It's the other piggy

Hi I spoke with them at the vets and we think it's stress (they aren't concerned with discharge atm but if she's still tender tomorrow to maybe take her for a check but she was only there Tuesday) I've converted the smallest bedroom so they have a lot more space for the night see if the added space makes fluffy leave her alone, they have a 4ft cage and have free roam. Time daily anyway but they now have an entire bedroom to explore 😊 also said some more companions may help so when we've finished decorating and get the giant piggy mansion built we will look into that and possibly a neutered boar 😊

A few months ago I found a thick Mucus around Velvet's genitals. It looked like this
Velvet Discharge.webp

I popped the ear bud into a self seal bag to show the vet. She examined Velvet "down below" and concluded that Velvet had a UTI. The vet also examined the mucus under the microscope and said that it had some infectious cells. A course of Baytril sorted it out.

He wee is as clear as water, I think it may have just been a bit of mucous, she seems a lot happier now but if there's any more or if still tender tomorrow I'll be calling the vets 💖

I've booked fluffy (the one constantly in season) in with the vets tomorrow, her aggression is getting worse and worse and she's constantly at it, we introduced a baby today, nugget was instantly happy again, but fluffy turned on everyone, including us 🤦‍♀️😔 hope I'm just over worrying but better safe than sorry xx

Thankyou hopefully I'm just over worrying but she seems to have been constantly in season and aggressive for around 6 weeks now xx

OK so bit of background info, one of my sows (nugget) had on off soft poop diahhrea etc, eventually after lots of vet visits we concluded it was stress due to a broken bond with fluffy. For around 6 weeks now shes (fluffy) appeared to be constantly in season, there's been, lots of rumble strutting, humping, teeth chattering and lunging but no blood drawn, today we introduced baby marshmallow, nugget bonded instantly and is mothering her, fluffy got aggressive with both of them and then us, I've booked her in with a cavyy savyy vet tomorrow to rule out hormones/ cysts did I do the right thing? Fluffy is now in a seperaate cage within the enclosure so she caant harm anyone but can still interact. Xx fluffy is 14 months old

Oh no! I might be doing the same soon. It wouldn't surprise me if daisy has ovarian cysts though she's not really showing any signs other than enlarged nipples and gets a little bit of crust on one (maybe on the other but it's dark and hard to see). Today she is rumbling away and pestering the other girls so much, will see if it's just a strong season or not by whether it continues. She's minimum 5 years old (if we work on her being 1 when we got her but in reality that was a minimum age).

I think the mucous on nugget yesterday was fromm fluffy too as they'd just been humping and theres been none since but fluffys had a lot even after a bath, this is what has come out of her

Fluffy is only 14 months so I'd have thought young for cysts but the behavioural things have been ongoing for 6ish weeks non stop

Also she has weird discharge so I think a vet check is definitely the right call, piggy daddy was freaking out a bit too much on the phone to the vets though he'd just had to break up a fight literally, fluuffy is now in a cage in the room with nugget and baby marshmallow so they can still talk etc but she cant harm them 🤦‍♀️

Her bits look a bit funky now, swollen and like crusty 🤦‍♀️

Thankyou I'll need it, her poops are tiny too and there's not as many as usual, she hasn't lost weight but wondering if I should step in with a syringe feed at this point

you'd usually not separate piggies unless it's a bloody fight or to quarantine them in case of certain diseases, hopefully the vet tomorrow clears all questions u have and helps out your sows
