Hi everyone, I’d like some advice on how to deal with my fussy piggies! Over the last few months they’ve become very fussy about the greens they eat. They used to eat kale & spring greens, but now all they’ll eat is spinach, which, I have read can cause stones if fed in large quantities due to the high calcium content. Not to mention that spinach is probably the most expensive leafy green to buy for guineas with a big appetite!

Can anyone advise how best to try & encourage them to eat more kale etc or what other veg I can try? I also supplement the leafy greens with carrots / cucumber / tomatoes etc.

I feel I may have spoiled them with too much choice which has made them fussy!

Also, is there are particular type / brand of hay which is preferable for piggies?

I find with my lot when they get a bit fussy, best thing to do it just power through it. They'll eat it if you keep offering it, I find, they're a bit like kids XD although when they get a bit iffy with spring greens I swap it out for chard for a little while, thats the one thing i've not been able to convince them to back down with!

broccoli once a week is a good veg,has lots of vit c.corriander, little gem, romaine lettuce is another green.mine have gone off spring greens !savoy cabbage is good.

I buy this Spring Mix Organic from Costco and give a handful to my Finn and handful to my Lara. It is pre-washed.
This spring mix has large variety of veggies, including organic baby whole leaf varieties including kale, chard, spinach, arugula, red romaine, green romaine, frisee, and etc.
My piggies get veggies three times a day, and this covers one meal of the day.

I believe above Spring Mix Organic I get from Costco has around 10 different veggies. Certainly doesn't lack variety.

I have been a Costco member for over 10 to 15 years, so pretty much since Costco opened its doors, I have been shopping there. I pay a yearly membership fee.

I buy large bags of veggies for my Finn and Lara. I am saying large because their veggie bags are really LARGE so I rarely run out of veggies.
In fact, everything they sell is in bulk so pretty large in general.

My friend works there but its 15 miles away. Might take a look if he will get me in for free 🤔

( i forgot he works there. The milton keynes one)

My piggies favourite green is coriander which they have most days. They also like little gem and romaine lettuce. To be honest they are not particularly fussy, the only greens they don't like are brussel sprouts.

I buy either Ings hay or the Timothy and rye mix from hay-and-straw.co.uk.

Mine love dill as well as almost all other greens.
Cucumber is another top favourite
Given that piggies are really just furry food processors they will soon realise that whatever is in the cage is all they’re going to get and tuck in
