spurs on her feet

Hi,

My Winnie has a long flat skin growing on the side of her foot. I trimmed it off with human scissors, but not too close to her skin. I can see that something similar is growing on her other foot. Is there any cream to remove it, or anything else?
What is the cause? Help I am so sad!
 
If it is hard dead skin i would keep trimming it off, I had some rescues come n with spurs on their feet and some got so bad they were catching on things and ripping the soles of their feet :( Gorgeous guineas perfect paws ointment can haelp soften the feet but these skin spurs do need keeping short.
I am not sure what causes these spurs some of the rescue guineas have had them some guineas never had them at all.
try perfect paws ointmnt it worked wonders here ;D
 
About 2 of mine have recently got them :P I hate cutting them off as i think ill hurt them so i leave them :-\

There not doing any harm to them at the moment so refuse to do anything about it unless obviously i can see somethings wrong O0
 
my bob has them, and munchie used to have them too.

i trim them, as if they get too long they curl up his paws

O0 i think i too would be too scared to cut them myself and get the vet to do it. O0 are they like skin tags humans (i have them) can get? sending hugs and healing vibes to you and winnie :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: girls send :-* :-* :-*
 
Spurs are just dead skin on the sole of the foot and can be cut off. Not much can be done to prevent them - some pigs are more prone than others!

Extra toes usually have a blood supply and are on the side of the foot by the other toes rather than the pad and should only be removed by a vet.
 
Almost every guinea pig Ive ever had has had spurs.
Definately at least 80% of them anyway.
All I do is clip them off, doesnt cause them any problems that I have seen and we treat it just the same way as trimming their nails.

As DSL said they are just dead skin, its like us going to a foot specialist when we have problems.
When my lot get their nails trimmed I also trim any spurs that are their also. Once you get the hang of trimming them they shouldn't be a worry, just like cutting another nail off.

My two guineas have spurs - I just trim them when I do their claws. They're really quite common, and not a problem.
