Squinting eyes when eating hard food

Hi

Now you may think i am daft and i have only had cottonbud and furby since thursday, but cottonbud squints her eyes when eating hard food (nuggets) but not when she is eating softer stuff like romaine lettuce or cucumber.

Not sure if it is a pleasure or pain response? Anyone any ideas

I was worried about this too because a couple of mine do it. I spoke to Vedra at CCT because I was worried that it could be a dental problem. Vedra advised to check their teeth which I did & everything seemed ok. Vedra said as long as they are putting on weight, they should be ok & it may be just habit. Hope this helps a bit xx

Yes i also thought pain if your at all worried check with your vet or there is a sticky on recommended vets here

My guineapig does that, and don't worry he's been doing it all his life and he is 2 and has had a checkup, so I defenitely wouldn't worry about it!

Some do and some don't; I don't think you need to worry.

Some pigs find hard food more of a dental workout than others. It is most likely a normal thing; as long as she is continuing to eat and she's holding her weight, then I wouldn't be too concerned about it.

Well we went to the CCT today and got a guinea pig mot and i am just a over protective guinea pig mummy there was nothing wrong at all with either piggy , but at least i know for sure and they got wormed aswell and they were proclaimed nice piggies. They had their nails done no squeaking and clawing and pretending you are trying to kill them, no they both sat there nice as pie wouldn't say boo to a goose, rolleyes saving me a job

Glad they're o.k., and in my opinion there's nothing wrong with being over-protective.
