He's getting admitted in half an hour, the vets just don't know it yet. He hasn't eaten anything since 3. He hasn't pooped or peed since 5 yesterday evening. He's on emeprid 0.5ml twice daily. I've packet his bag and all his home comforts. I have a horrible feeling he's shutting down. I can't believe how easily he seems to be giving up.

Oh no I hope not (shutting down), I really, really hope not hun. Massive hugs to you, please let the vets give some good news about him today :hug:

Sending poor Stanley and you lots of vibes!

Keeping my fingers crossed for your boy :( I am wondering if he has had a bad reaction to Buprenorphine if that was the pain killing injecion as this was how my Petal reacted to it over a year ago, she almost was unconscious but with her eyes staring :( x

He was admitted from 9 till 8 so I could sleep. He hasn't peed for a day and a half. He's gained 100g. Guessing, I think this last stone has completely blocked his ability to pee. I'm going to get him xrayed in the morning. If this is the problem no wonder he's in agony. I don't think this vets will do that surgery. I've been pushing fluids to try get him to pass it but I think I'll stop because I might be making things worse. Does anyone know a Glasgow vets that will do this surgery in an emergency if I'm right?

Oh goodness me, poor little mite. If he cannot pee due to the blockage and his bladder had=s been swelling this is an emergency, as you rightly suspect. I hope you find one. All I can suggest doing at this stage is phoning round.:hug:

Apex Vets in Falkirk is in the vet locator section - but that could be miles from you - Pets n' vets in Glasgow say they are exotics and deal with chinchillas etc 01416495471 G43 1RN - fingers crossed for Stanley xx

Let us know how Stanley gets on, I don't know of any vets in Glasgow I'm afraid. Just Apex vets, which I use which is in Denny.

My vet has removed a uretre stone a few years ago but the surgery was very long and given Stanley has just had surgery, I don't know if or not he could be operated on so soon after his first operation. It will also be very difficult for him to recover from a GA especially if he hasn't eaten in days. I know previously I have been sent away to provide supportive care in order to get a pig well enough for an operation, to ensure they have the best chance of survival. Given Stanley's current condition I don't think that's an option, best option is to speak to the vet.

hi, hes been to out of hours and now hes in the practice, hes in kidney failure and needs to be pts. They think there has been an underlying issue :( hes going downhill really fast.
I really need fast advice. I'm going to make them give him a general anesthetic before they do. Will this ensure he feels no pain what so ever?

Sorry for the shortness of the last reply, speed was of the essence. I am so very sorry that it's all come to this. It's possible that not being able to wee has led to kidney failure, but then maybe kidney failure may result in not being able to wee? I would be thinking that the lodged kidney stone would be the culprit of the chain of events, but not being a vet I wouldn't be sure.
It's hard at a time like this, but if having answers helps you in any way then now may be a good time to speak to the vet, along with offering to have his medical history sent to them to help them to deduce the most likely cause.

Massive massive hugs to you, having recently lost one who went downhill without anyone being able to save her, I know what a painful thing this is to go through, and it rips your heart out knowing that they cannot be treated.

It's a really awful thing to have happened and you've really been through it.

I always have my little one's given a whiff of gas to ensure no pain. So sorry, but the kindest thing is to say goodbye.

This is the last step of being a caring owner, there is nothing that can stop kidney failure and my understanding is it's not a pleasant death. You're making the right decision.

This is reassuring, I always feel the need to seek confirmation from others that i'm doing the right thing, i really struggle to make decisions like this on my own. Thank you

Thank you, i think i will. I'm so sorry to you too. :(

BIG HUGS!

Most vets give a whiff of gas beforehand so the piggy won't feel a thing; you can always request it if they don't do it that way.

Thinking of you and poor Stanley. You did what you could for him; the outcome was out of your hands, so please don't feel guilty that you could save him.

Huge hugs. It sounds like your guy fought the hardest he could but it wasn't to be. You did all you could and it sounds like he was a lot more complex than expected.

Sleep well Stanley. x

I'm so sorry, I agree that it is the kindest thing for him though. As others have said, ask for a whiff of gas first and it will be just like he is going to sleep. Hugs.
