Start of the sweetcorn season!

Monty was very excited tonight as he got his first whole sweetcorn of the season! A firm fave of the boys, I spotted them on the vege market in Birmingham and got a bag of husks too for free. Due to being out of the usual megazorb he has had to move onto fleece tonight - something I've been considering for a while. Only other option I found in the garage was shavings so an ideal chance to try fleece until my megazorb arrives later in the week.

Monty says I need to practice with the fleece he was not impressed with all the lumps and bumps!

Awwww lovely pics Alison and Monty looks so happy.

We have been keeping an eye out for sweetcorn so will have another look. Been wanting to try Nigel with it for ages and I know all my others adore it.

I find the street/farmers markets seem the best place for sweetcorn - Birmingham has a large fruit and vege market and at the mo it's 2 for £1 will be 3 soon.

I am often spotted sorting round by the bins for sweetcorn husks and the chap on the organic stall saves me carrot tops:)
 
Wish we had a farmers market. Our Indian shop tends to have them and they save us the husks too.

Yeah sweetcorn time! I was thinking it must be soon, I keep looking on the market for some. I know Gerry will like it, he likes anything sweet, not sure about the others, will have to wait and see!

YAY :(|) We were told by a farmer last month that sweetcorn will be available soon, saw some in my usual veggie shop last week but not the best quality yet. The piggies have had to make do with baby sweetcorns or the supermarket pre packed ones for a time now :(
My boys go totally nuts for the husks, the girls haven't tried them yet. Better get off to the market asap ;)
 
Nom nom nom, I love corn on the cob with melted butter! Monty seems to have good taste! My girls aren't too fussed with baby corn but haven't tried corn on the cob yet!
 
Aw, Monty is lovely, I adore his colourx) He looks so happy and snugged up with the blanket. Didnt realise they can eat sweetcorn, so gonna try this on Henry and Ian later, especially because they are such fussy eaters...:^-

He eats sweetcorn raw, will eat babycorn if the mood takes him but he loves big corn.

He is on fleece by accident as I'd not realised I was out of megazorb and only option was shavings so thought lets try it.

He seems to like it so will see how it goes - might go back to megazorb but have to say I am seeing the advantages of fleece! He is asleep in his cozy now, must order some new ones.

Apparently, it is quite a fattening food due to the carbs. I tried everywhere a few weeks ago when my piggy was poorly and off his food to get the cobs to fatten him up.

Monty needs fattening up but my Melvin and Parsnip are not having any as they need to lose weight! I have let them have some husks.

Monty has eaten the whole thing now well all the corn:)
 
Yes my piggies love sweetcorn I pick it from our pyo farm for them :))
