my guinea pigs seem to be a little nocturnal and tend to stay in their house during the day, dashing out for the odd bit of food but only really coming out in the evenings/night time.

just wondering if this is normal or whether they might think our living room is a bit noisy ?

It is rather down to the noise, which takes some getting used to. Give them time and be patient. This kind of behaviour is typical for newcomers. Please keep in mind that your guinea pigs are prey animals in a strange new territory!

While guinea pigs are up once or twice during the night, they are mainly day active, especially in the mornings and evenings, and they like to browse throughout the day.

Here is a collection of tips on how to help shy new guinea pigs to settle in:

I was going to post the same thing today as well! My 2 are up in the mornings when I go to get their veg. They both stand at the side trying to climb the bars to get to the veg quicker lol. Then when they get their veg and finish eating it all they go back to bed! They are more active in the evenings, I was wondering if it could be down to me being at work during the day and getting them out after work. Been trying to think of other toys I can put in their cage to give them something else to do.

Mine are exactly the same - sleep quite a bit during the afternoon (as I'm at work), but usually awake around 6pm when I'm home, jumping and wheeking all over the place, until bedtime around midnight!
