sticky boar gland? Why?

I have a 3 year old castrated male, he has been castrated for about 18 months now. HE is with a female. When i was grooming him today i noticed around the glad at the back it is really sticky and the fur was all stuck together.

Any idea's as to why?
 
Some grease glands are just more active than others, although I do wonder if hormonal or environmental changes could have anything to do with it suddenly kicking into action.
