Hi,
My 4 year old boar Clarence has developed a horrible, sticky bum. His fur is greasy to the touch and clumped together and when we clipped away the fur we found a sticky patch on his skin about the size of a 10p.
We gave him a good bath with small animal shampoo but we couldn't get rid of most of the stickiness. Clarence tends to sit in the same corner all day so I guess sitting in his poop all day doesn't help but it seems odd that this has come up after 4 years. Is it possible he's got a skin condition or infection?

His scent patch!

It will be very sticky if it doesn't get cleaned often. William has one that is due for cleaning next Monday!

I found that if you use a guinea shampoo neat so no water and massaged it into the scent patch it unclogged the hairs stuck to it.

Give it another go and it'll come up clean and not ganky.

Sounds like a grease spot to me.
What me and my boyfriend use to get rid of this on our guinea pigs is Swarfega. All you do it rub a tiny blob of Swarfega on the greasy spot, leave it for a couple minutes, and then rinse off with warm water, and then shampoo their whole body. Works like a charm :) x

Swarfega is great for dissolving the hardened lumps from the glands. Just make sure to give him an extra rinse to get it all off. I get mine from b & q..

Thanks

Relieved it's not a serious thing -c
I never would have thought to use Swarfega!
Thanks for the advice, I will try again with the bathing and hopefully he will start to look less skanky!
