Hi all,

I wonder if you can help me.

I picked one of my piggies up this morning and she had what looked like orangey coloured discharge around her vaginal area. I got some warm water and a cotton wool pad and it just wiped off but i wondered if this was normal.

She has recently had a wee which was also cloudy.

Is all of this normal or should i be worried?

Claire

Cloudy wee means simply that she's been discharging a surplus of calcium. The pee will dry a powdery white and is nothing to worry about.

Have an eye out on whether the orangey discharge repeats.

Have you any idea what the discharge could be at all ? I did wonder if it was just a rusty coloured wee and some excess was still on her as I found a thread somewhere where someone else had the same thing.

Hi Claire
The only time i personally have seen something similar; my sow had a UTI (urinary tract infection) However, i am NOT saying this is the same for your sow :)

Some of the signs to look out for are: lifting back legs on urination, squeaking when urinating, a wet underneath, a musty smell to the urine, bloody urine.

I have had 2 piggies diagnosed with a UTI (1 boar, 1 sow) & the only symptom both exhibited was the show of blood/a red/orange - coloured discharge :)

Hi, What was the treatment required for a UTI?

The discharge was first thing yesterday mornign and i checked her numerous times yesterday and again this morning and there is nothing there so will just keep an eye on it.

She is not squeaking when having a wee and on checking the wet patches in the hucth, none of them are a different colour to the usual yellowish. Her underside is not wet either.

I will keep a close eye on her.

Claire x
