Hi guys.

A part from putting food in the bowl, how can i get them to rumage for it? They search for food in the wield so i thought if i could make them do that here, they wouldnt get bored as fast as what they do from just getting it from a bowl. Any help appreciated

stuff some salad into a toilet roll... then they have to rip it up to get it out... tie a piece of string accross the corner of the cage and hang food off of it, then they have to reach for it...

er... thats all I can think of :)

Hope this helped!

I make Rodney work for his food. I use hay balls, he has a large ball for his hay and a small one for his fruit and veg in the morning. I recently bought him a ka-bob which is a bit like a kebab skewer and i put some fruit and veg on that for in the evening. They weren't expensive about £3 each. :)

Yeah i was thinking about getting two of them, i just found a fruit and veg spiral holder thingy so i put that in the with the girls lol

:) Stuff paper bags with hay (good cheap meadow hay cos they'll wee on it after playing :) )
Grow timothy and orchard grasses in their run- its longer and mimics the long grasses present in the wild
Grow Wheat/Cereal grasses and cover them with hay while they're still 'growing' in the seed trays, the guins will forage for the grass first and may even have some hay too!
Cover Fiddlestix with hay. Put 2 fiddlestix end to end leaving a small gap in the middle, cover them with hay and push a small amount down through the gap.
Fill the hutch with picked grass and some Meadow hay, watch it disappear!
Put 'something' in the middle of a Chube and fill the ends with hay so they have to forage to find the goody out, or just fill a Chube with a good Meadow hay :)

Most of a guineas day is filled with grazing so will involve hay and grass, the remainder of the day is for sleeping :)

I saw in a guinea pig book once about having those house bricks with holes right through and poking an entire carrot in one but having the end poking out. That way the piggy has to tug it and work to get it out.

What about having a large tray with bits of food mixed in with a different type of cage litter, instead of the traditional food bowl. I use the recycled cardboard squares (Ideal Pet Bed or Ecopetbed) as cage litter which works quite well for this as the peices are a good size and quite light so the piggies can rummage about in them.

You could hide treats or veggies under little up turned cardboard boxes so they have to either shove them out of the way or chew them to get to the food.

One I use for my pet rats is to put some food in an old cotton sock (preferably clean!), sew it up and hang it in their cage so they have to chew the treats out. Perhaps with piggies you wouldn't hang it up so they could reach it better but an idea none less.

Another one is to put treats inside a loo roll and wrap it up like a Christmas cracker with paper and use some string to tie the ends. Not just for the festive season this one!
