Stinky Boars

I had the girls out in the pen for awhile, then put them back and got the boys out. They started getting extra smelly! Did they smell the females and release something to attract the ladies? They are 10 weeks old and this is the first time I have really smelled it. It doesn’t bother me (most animal smells don’t lol) just wondering if that is what it was.

Hoping a boar owner may know... I have only keep girls I am afraid, but will ask @MerryPip when I see her tomorrow

The joys of eau de boar - otherwise called testosterone! :yikes:
Even my neutered boars can still crank it out when they meet (new) girls!

Please always handle, groom and free roam boars before sows so you do not carry any scent across.
Sow pheromones, especially when a sow is coming into season or is in season, can cause fights and fall-outs, even more so in teenage boys who are already on an all times testosterone high!

ive about ten boars ,in my experience they are probably scent marking,or testoterone loaded.it may be best to put the females last into the floortime pen,so your boys do not get two excited.it has been known for boars to fall out if they are not used to being around sows/females.
 
Next time, take the boars out first to eliminate this odour and to decrease the chance of the board fighting over the females that were previously there x
 
Boars get a bad press for being stinky. They are just sharing their gorgeous manly scent in response to delicious female scent they can pick up.
Great advice given above.
If you find their enclosure gets stinky again straight after cleaning it may because their desire to re-scent it goes into overdrive. I’ve learned to leave something they’ve already scented in their enclosure as it discourages them from scent marking quite so enthusiastically.
