Can guinea poop be toxic to other animals? I am just wondering since I caught our family dog with his head in my guinea pigs cage munching away on his poo while I went to get more hay from the cupboard.

SIDE NOTE: Do not worry about my guinea pig and our family dog. Our dog has been with us for nine years. I can read him like a book, I know exactly what he is like with other animals and I never let him interact or be in the same room with small animals without constant supervision. I am fully aware that you can not trust animals 100%.

I've read that guinea pig poo isn't toxic so I wouldn't worry about your pooch. My dog also loves to snack on poos though she prefers my rabbits haha. :)

My two dogs used to climb right into their hutch when the pigs were in the run and hoover up the poos! They also used to run clean up when the run was moved around - never seemed to do them any harm!

Mine will eat it at any opportunity! Dirty dogs!

Plain poops are fine. Just be wary if they're on any medications that may cause problems if eaten by dogs etc.

Seen years ago that gpig poop can be used for plants in aquariums &ponds as fertilizer. Its only grass /vegetables &organic after all :)

It won't hurt them, provided there are no internal parasites or anything like that in their poop. One of our dogs was obsessed with tracking down and eating any rabbit poop or squirrel poop in the yard- as they were wild animals we worried about parasite, but luckily she was always fine.

Mu mother's dog goes crazy for guinea pig poo. Most dogs seem to. I guess it must be something to do with the guinea pigs diet, as they say a dog will eat grass to aid it's digestion.... maybe guinea pig poos work the same? :P

Watching one of my dogs nose around the pig habitat looking for stray flung poos, I thought of this exact same thing. I was actually relieved to discover the dogs love piggy poop. It makes them less interested in the actual guinea pigs (no, they can't actually GET at the guinea pigs, but one whines like crazy near them).

My springer spaniel (rip) used to love guinea pig and rabbit poos. Never did her any harm. She lived to seventeen and a half.

My max is forever running around the piggies room looking for poops on the floor!:vom:
