Hi everyone, I'm Scott and it's a pleasure to meet you all. :)

Really nice little place you have here. :)

One of our little piggies has been making an odd sound from time to time that I can only describe as retching, but when we came home today we noticed it seems to be much worse.

Little lightning is 3 years old and until yesterday seemed to be eating and drinking fine, but when we tried to feed him today he only took very little and also noticed his poo's seem to be slightly smaller.

My little girl said she has heard him do it occasionally for about a week but she just thought he may have had some food stuck in there but as of today it seems much more severe and he is not himself as all he wants to do is hide away.

I have uploaded a video if anyone would care to have a look, Thank you very much in advance for any information that may help us diagnose his condition before his visit to the vet on Thursday as we will take him tonight if we have to.

Thank you everyone.

Please see a vet as soon as possible; your boy is in major pain!
Make sure that you have his bladder checked in case he has got a stone stuck.

Please let us know what the vet finds and please do ask any questions about poorly-pig care, or if you need tips on giving medication etc. All the best at the vets.

Thank you very much for the replies.

We still have some Metacam that was prescribed when we took him to the vet a few months ago for what they assumed was a pain in his lower back. Should I perhaps give him a dose to help with any pain relief until we get him to vet?

I will definitely ask for his bladder to be checked.

I would not give any metacam, as it can interfere with what they want to give him.

Good luck with him, it's awful when they can't tell you what's wrong.

It is indeed Skitty :(

He will be at the Vets at 9am today so I will keep you all informed regarding his condition.
On a positive note, He has eaten some cucumber and nice wet romaine so hopefully after his appointment today he will be on the road to recovery.

Thank you to everyone for the kind words and have a great day.

Good luck at the vet and do show them the video you captured. It does look like a strong pain reaction to probably weeing / pooing. Hope you get a good vet who will really investigate this and get pain relief. Let us know how you get on

Little thunder didn't get taken for his appointment until 20 minutes ago :( so he's in seeing the vet at the moment.

They have been reliably informed of all concerns so I will let everyone know the outcome.

OK, the little guy has been seen by the vet and they seem to think it's possibly bladder stones just like Wiebke had previously mentioned.

They have given him 3 injections...An anti-biotic, pain relief and one relating to his appetite (unsure exactly what is was as I had to run back to work)

He has an X-ray on Friday so we've been told to keep an eye on him for the next couple of days as if he gets better they may not have to X-ray but if his condition remains they may have to give him a small medical procedure.

Thanks for all the help and encouraging words, I'll keep you all posted on the little guys progress.

Good luck for Friday.

I once had a boar who had a tiny (smaller than a pin head) bladder stone but it was enough to give him grief. He was given a course of antibiotics and pain relief and thankfully he passed the stone by himself.

Was his urine tested at all as it could still be an acute UTI? Fingers crossed

Hi Claire and thanks for your input.

I'm unsure if they tested his urine to be honest but I'll certainly ask my wife when she gets home and let you know.

If it's deemed necessary for him to have the X-ray, the doc said he would be in overnight for a small op, but like I say, I'll definitely ask the good lady to raise the point.

Much obliged everyone, thank you all...

Hello Scotty & everyone

How is your little boy doing? Hope he is feeling better.

Having watched the video you uploaded above, I would like to tell you that one of our piggies, Rupert, showed exactly the same sympton earlier this year.

Rupert did the "retching and heaving" when he pooed or tried to poo, but often nothing came out. On some occasions he did it several times in a row, which was heartbreaking to see. In his case, he was also bleeding from his anus and some red mucus came out together with poos.

Our vets did urine tests twice but it was clear both time.

After several trials and errors of different antibiotics and painkillers, finally he stopped doing it and the bleeding also stopped.

So I am wondering if it could be something to do with some intestines problem which is causing him the acute pain.

Are you going back to vets tomorrow? Good luck!

p.s. This is my first post, so hope it will have been posted OK.

Hi there Super Rupa.

Thanks for asking, unfortunately he's still quite poorly but has been trying his best to nibble some veggies and drink a little but he is very lethargic and weak so I just hope he's strong enough to fight through the anaesthesia and procedure tomorrow.

Fingers crossed the X-ray will confirm the original diagnosis and nothing else so he can have his op and get on his road to recovery.

Little update...

My guy has had his procedure and the vet is extrememly happy with his progress so my wife is off to collect our little furball.

As soon as I have more information I'll let you all know.

The lightning household thanks you all enormously for the help and advice you gave us.

Have a great day everyone.

Just read through this thread. I really hope he recovers really well and is soon back to his usual self.

On a side note he looks rather like my wondeful Mistletoe;

That's great news and the update is much appreciated :)
Please let us know how he progresses :)
