Hello everyone - my first thread!

The other day I noticed a tiny scab type thing under Henry's nose.. At first I thought it was just dirt and left it for him to get off, but Ive noticed it's been on there every day since.

I tried to get it off myself earlier, but it is well and truly stuck and I didn't want to hurt him, I'm now thinking maybe it's a scab or something?

Has anyone experienced anything similar as I'm really worried, but don't know if a trip down the vet is necessary if it is just dirt! Also, I don't know whether it's just me worrying but I'm sure it's got slightly bigger in the last few days.

Any advice would be really appreciated,

Thanks!

Amy x

It could be a condition called chelitis, but you need to get him seen by a vet for diagnosis & treatment. Can you give us your location please, so we can recommend a cavy savvy vet for you :)

Thank you for your replies!

This is a photo of it on the first day I noticed it, as you can see it is really tiny..

I will post another photo of it tomorrow as I am sure it's got bigger...

And I live in littlehampton, West Sussex :)

Thank you!image.webp

Mmm it's very slight so might just be a little bit of boar glue maybe? Do you feed him much fruit? I would stop giving any fruit for a while & see if it improves, but if it gets bigger he needs to see a vet. You can check our vet locator at the top of the page :)

Yeah maybe, also I rarely give them fruit, just a lot of kale! I will keep an eye on it over the next few days and see how it goes..
Thank you for your help, I will check out the vet locator now :)

I agree that with such a small scab, you just need to keep an eye on things.

PS: It would help us greatly if you added your country, state or (for the UK) your county/city to your details. That way, we can always give you the appropriate advice and recommendations for your location straight away. With members from all over the world, you can appreciate that climate, access to vets and rescues, medical and other brand names can vary enormously and any advice of ours has to take that into account. Please click on your username on the top bar, then go to personal details and scroll down to location.

I will update my details now, thanks!

Henry looks a very handsome chap, I love his topknot between his ears! Hope the little scab proves harmless.
