Hi,
I picked my youngest guinea pig up, Beau, tonight and occasionally when she breathed it came out all raspy. I used a stephascope ( sorry for my bad spelling) to listen to her breathing and it sounded normal compared to my other piggies. Does anyone know what this may be?
Thanks

Hi is there any discharge from her nose or eyes or crust around her eyes? It may be the early signs of URI but I wouldn't jump straight to that conclusion and fret just yet. Has she just had hay? It could be the case that she got dust up her nose or a bit of hay? Have you introduced anything new to their pen because if so it could be a reaction to that. I would place a bowl of steaming hot water next to her cage to help clear her nose and see how she is by morning. :) I'll tag @Wiebke who might add more

Hi! Please see a vet if the raspy breathing doesn't settle down again after a while (or at least overnight) or as an emergency if Beau is suddenly off food and looking lethargic.

Guinea pigs have very narrow airways, so you usually hear any little obstruction. If in doubt, always see a vet as URI is one of those things that can kill, and that can deteriorate rather quickly.

Hi, Il check on her in the morning and see if it's still happening, if so then il take her to the vets. Could just be because I've just given them fresh hay but Il see how it goes. Thankyou !
