ok I pick my girls up tomorrow and I'm super excited.
Having owned pigs for many years but having taken a break for many year I was a bit unsure of information the pet shop gave me which was to bed them down on straw and only give them hay to eat.
I am racking my brains but I'm sure I never bedded my pigs down on straw because of getting digs in the eyes..
Am I really that rusty LOL looks like I'm going to be doing lots of reading tonight for the new owners section :)

Nope, that's the pet shop giving bad advice...which sadly isn't uncommon. Straw as bedding is not a good idea for precisely the reasons you already know!

I put hemparade (hemp based bedding from zooplus) and hay hay hay in my guinea pigs litter trays. They have fleece in most of the cage.

You are right about straw being considered too risky as bedding due to eye damage. Pet shops rarely seem to know much about the animals that they sell.

Phew ... silly isn't it ? You can have been doing something for such a long time but someone say something different and you start to doubt myself :)
I expect I will be on lots in the next couple of days :)
