PigglePuggle
Senior Guinea Pig
Piggle and Blodwen both went to the vet today to see Auntie Clare our expert local head vet to have their ovaries checked...
what a long day!
Double appointment 10.15am then Clare phoned to say she felt a lump on Blodwen and was alarmed by Piggle's swollen nipples (well, enormous boobies really, imagine Dolly Parton wearing a Capitol Building themed bra top!) so could she keep them in for ultrasound scans... warned us that Blod's breathing isnt up to anaesthesia so if she found anything, automatic referral to Rutland House but some difficult decisions... waiting... waiting...
4.30pm Auntie Clare phones: both piggies fine but apologies for the extreme haircuts! Blodwen's "lump"? An oversized but fully functional kidney in the wrong place! Further shaving, scanning of mystery kidney deformity, and... no stones, no growths, no pathology at all- Blod just has a charmingly wonky kidney arrangement to match her other charming wonky attributes!
Also Piggle didnt need sedation and was perfectly well behaved for a conscious ultrasound scan, despite every minor nail trim at home always being a hooman bloodbath like wrestling a sack of psychotic weasels. Piggle is a good girl says Auntie Clare the vet!
So £200 and 6 hours of worry later... Piggle may need hormone injections if her extreme hormonal behaviour and comedy nipples dont calm down a bit. Blod is probably fine. Just ladies of a certain age having hormone fluctuations.
Well worth the vet fees for the tjorough check over and scans and reassurance but both are now half bald (Blod is three quarters bald as she got a bonus kidney scan from the back!) and slathered in medical lubricant. And a bit traumatised but happy to be back with their friends in time for dinner
