This is going to sound really strange but I am worried that my past piggies have suffered whilst being pts.

The majority of the time, they have been pts by my favourite vet who I trust but Eleanor, Ena and Erin were pts as an emergency. Each time, they have been taken away for pts and brought back to be wrapped in a fleece blanket. My favourite vet has explained it’s because they give them a whiff of gas first before the injection but now I’m worried that the other vets didn’t do this and they suffered :( Is this normal when putting piggies to sleep that they are taken away?

All of my gerbils were given gas to be p.t.s. it is normal. I havnt had to have a pig p.t.s yet.

Whatever happens its far better for them when they go than us. We are made to suffer with cancers

I held Gladys...she was still sedated/asleep from having an xray then the vet injected her 😢 ... I am sure your piggy's did not suffer xx

Hi!

Please take a deep breath. There is nothing for you to worry about.

Anaesthesia before the lethal injection is administered has been standard procedure for more than a decade. You do not need to be a piggy savvy vet for giving any pet a gentle death. Vets are nowadays carefully schooled in this sensitive area and clinics have generally clear directives for the practice, even emergency services.
If your piggies have been taken behind the scenes, then it was for anaesthesia, which can take a while to take full hold. Any vet will make sure that an animal is fully out before proceeding further. Bringing them back gently and lovingly wrapped in a towel is also standard practice.

Pts = 'putting to sleep' is not exactly a British euphemism for euthanasia; it describes exactly what the experience is for your piggies.
ALL your piggies have been fast asleep before they were sent to the Rainbow Bridge and have not suffered in any way. ;)

Hi mate, I understand how this can worry you buddy. But please don't let it trouble you, all vets care deeply for animals and would always make sure this procedure is painless and un-noticeable to the piggy. The last thing our pets now who are PTS is drifting off to sleep. Have a hug Claire and please don't let this intrusive thought upset you. x x
