Can guinea pigs get styes around their eye? We have a 9 week old baby who we only got just over a week ago and she has a little raised bump on the edge of her eye which looks like a stye a human would get (left as you look at the picture). No other signs of any hair loss/dry skin etc. She seems fine in herself.

Hi

What a little cutie!

Please have the eye vet checked. Piggies can get growths on their conjunctiva but it needs a vet to decide whether they can be left or they could be part of an infection etc.

Ok thank you I will get her booked in. I’m hoping it’s just a scratch as her baby nails are quite sharp. Haven’t noticed it getting worse or spreading etc/any new patches or dry skin. I’m just so so worried about ringworm as she’s new 😭😭😭

It doesn't look like ringworm to me - and if it was, the fungal patch would already be spreading. So please let go of that worry. ;)

That’s good that it doesn’t look like ringworm, I had visions of having to fumigate the whole shed and treat all of the piggies at once 🤣 Hopefully just a scratch but we will get it checked out for definite.

There is no sign of a developing fungal crust and balding area, which you would see developing quickly from day 2 onwards. ;)

It's likely just a scratch, either self-inflicted or a misjudged back led swipe from the companion.
