I have been having some troubles with my piggy the past few days. He has had very soft poos so I stopped his veggies for a few days and just gave him dry food and plenty of hay. His poo is back to normal now today and there's plenty of it!

I gave him to my boyfriend to hold when I was cleaning out the cage just now and when I was done I took him to hold on my lap. He was fine for about a minute and then looked terrifed and his back legs went all limp. I put him back in the cage and he just sat there but when I got up to move away I scared him and he ran into his house. He can move his legs, just appears to be choosing not to.

Any one have any idea what might be going on?! I am trying to find a local vet to take him to first thing in the morning but untill then does any one have any idea what the problem might be and what I can do to make sure he isn't in any pain?! I'm so worried.......

It is hard to say, but keep an eye on him. If he didnt move his back legs for a few minutes but then did so ok, it could be that something scared him and he froze? if he appears to have lost the use of his back legs, i.e he is dragging them, Peter Gurneys site has useful remedies for this.

Definitely not something just scaring him. Sometimes he is still when he is scared but I could practically tip him up on his side and his legs were just limp.

How is he this evening? If he is able to use them at times, that is good, but obviously any lameness will need figuring out. It's hard to say just from what you've described; in any case a vet check would be the best thing if he's not improved.

I would take him to the vet then. Paralised piggies can be a result of calcium not being absorbed properly in the gut. Osteocare liquid can be good for this problem. Don't be talked into anything by your vet that you don't want to do.
