I know of someone (through somebody else) who currently has their two piggies living outside (and have always lived outside). Whilst they have insulated hutches (next to each other), I can't help but feel for them being outside in all weather's, especially at the moment. Both piggies are about 4/5 months old. They thought they had two sows, but it turned out that one was a boar. The piggies were separated as soon as they realised, and the sow is on pregnancy watch. The boar has since been neutered and his 6 weeks post op is 16th December. They only have a small home, and say that they don't have room for an indoor cage at the moment, but are hoping to build an extension in the near future, so that their piggies can then live indoors.
I am wanting to offer them a donation of our now unused "starter cage" which is a 120 x 60cm Ferplast (on a stand with wheels), in the hope that they can find space for at least this indoors. Please can I check first though if this would be big enough for both piggies (it doesn't look likely that there will be babies to add to the mix, as I believe the sow has been checked by a vet) on a temporary basis, until the weather starts to get warmer again.
In the meantime, I have let them know to use plenty of hay, and also snugglesafes/cosy pods along with their insulation.
