Sunrise, my sweet girl was helped to the Bridge after a sudden major illness and a huge effort to save her.
My sweetheart developed blood poisoning and intestinal haemorrhaging after starting a course of normally well tolerated antibiotics. It's not 100% linked to the antibiotics but is a likely factor. Sunrise did have a history of colitis when eating grass, but no-one could have predicted the development of her sepsis.
Sunrise was undergoing treatment for the beginnings of an infection round her incisor, and the whole thing should have been quick, simple and easy for her, but sadly, as mentioned, this rare complication happened with such speed and aggression that all the meds, fluids and help could not save her. When we were as certain as we could be that she could not recover she was helped to the Bridge, away for her pain and stress.
I want to thank Debbie from TEAS, and Simon and Kim from Cat and Rabbit, who all battled to save her.

Sunrise my lovely, it's going to be hard to type this, and I do so with tears. Am missing you and Penny is too.

Sunrise, you came into our lives nearly three years ago, chosen as a companion for one sad, lonely and neglected piggy Shadow.
You and Shadow moved into your new home on the same day, and you turned her life around.
You were always confident, quickly settled, and showed Shadow what it was to be a happy piggy.
You were playful and intelligent. When you were younger you used to enjoy pushing your hidey off the settee with us.
You were dubbed the 'furry pear' by my friend as you relaxed on her knee, and in the back of my mind that description stuck.
Some time later we introduced baby Cloud and mature Snowball, and you were welcoming to both. Snowball didn't take well to the introduction though and I had to try again several months later, when she behaved and you were just as welcoming.
Sadly Shadow passed away a couple of days after surgery, she never really recovered from it.
You became head-pig, and a wonderful leader you were too.
After baby Penny was introduced, and as she was still settling, I remember the time she found herself alone on one of the top levels, and squeaked in distress. You and Snowball rushed to her, only to find no threat. It's like you and Snowball looked at each other as if to say "kids, eh?", like you shrugged your shoulders and walked away. That's the sort of impression I got when you looked at her and poddled off to what you had been doing.
You were patient with Snowball, and had some tender moments with her, but in the end she couldn't cope living in a sow-herd and was happier separate. I hope the two of you can now make amends!
You rushed to Cloud as she had her heart attack, and tried to help her as she passed. You tenderly licked her face and little toes. I hope that she knew you were with her.
As I got Freddie as company for Snowball I did try to have the two of them introduced back to you and Penny. You greeted Snowball with tenderness, but saw Freddie as a threat, either to your position as head-pig, or to Penny or Snowball, or just didn't like him, either way you fiercely defended what ever you were defending, and there's just no way you were all going to live together. So two pairings were made.
So from then, for you, it's just been you and Penny, and what a lovely close bond it's been. Penny followed your lead. When you got up to do something, she would follow. You slept close-by, you shared tender moments, you didn't squabble. You were perfect together. This is how I thought things would stay, but it wasn't meant to be.

Sunrise, funny, healthy, strong-willed yet easy-going, protective, caring, sweet, chirper, wheeker, enthusiastic, friendly. You looked after your companions, you enjoyed your ear-rubs, you probably didn't realise the sheer joy you brought to Shadow, or us, but I hope you know now.

Be free, enjoy grass again, find your companions who left before you, and play again. I really am missing you x

Your first day shortly after being put into the your new home with Shadow. Shadow discovered you and popcorned for joy! It looks like you were running away from her in this picture, you're just a blur disappearing into the tube, but you were just exploring and were not afraid of Shadow. I just couldn't capture both of you being still together! :)

I'm sorry for your loss, atleast she lived a great time with you...

Tears in the eyes reading that. You shared a great bond and lovely times. In time the pain will fade and tears will dry and these happy memories will make you smile. She lived a happy life with you and you always did all you could for her right till the end. Massive hugs and love to Penny also.

Sleep well pretty lady, you'll never be forgotten

RIP Sunrise

I'm so sorry for your loss, such a beautiful piggy inside and out reading your lovely tribute to Sunrise.

Hope you're all okay

Thank you everyone for your kind words. Sunday night was sleepless as I knew she was feeling poorly. Monday morning was just me madly sewing to take my mind off knowing that she was feeling gassy. Tuesday was emotional as I knew she had been rushed in first thing in the morning, having gone down hill over night. When I phoned for an update I was told that both Kim and Simon were looking at her as we speak, please phone back in ten minutes, or hold if I like, and I felt at that point, for both of them to be seeing to her, things were really not going well. Then we had the conversation of how bad she was, and a few hours later the conversation making the decision to help her on her journey.
Everything was so fast, and Debbie too was rushing back and forth trying to help her out and syringe fead her inbetween vets visits.

So straight after the call to help her to sleep, I rushed off to work, which just felt so wrong. Wednesaday was a long shift and rush out in the morning, jobs to see to on return. I was trying not to cry at work, managed most of the time. Had such a migraine that day.

Then yesterday I felt able to grieve, helped by being on here for much of the day seeing happy storeis and introductions, but not so good seeing that other people were facing similar challenges with their loved piggies. I cried for them and mine! And sewing, lots of sewing, good at occupying the mind! And making plans for Penny, as this must be done sooner rather than later as she is now on her own.

And today I'm sewing again, also pootling around on here, and off to work, pretty soon but no tears, thank you, I feel calm and composed today. That's the thing with grief, it's an up and down thing!

Penny is OK, I haven't had the heart to wash the two cosies that Sunrise had last slept in, but perhaps now I should and let her move on. She snuggles up in them a lot though and I'm not sure what to do for the best. She could be waiting still for her return. I don't know, but she is eating fine and active.

My younger lad had a good connection with Sunrise. she would sometimes favour him at lap time. But he's OK thank you.

Thank you all very much, being on here has helped over the past few days

I am so sorry for your loss. You have had more then your fair share of losing guineas. She was such a cutie and I enjoyed your tribute and loved the videos.
Rip sweet girl.

Oh so sorry to hear about Sunrise. Lovely memories you have of her - I love the 'furry pear' name! Sending vibes for both you and Penny too to get through this loss.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I doubt there was a dry eye when reading your tribute-my eyes certainly weren't. She was a beautiful and very special piggy.

Popcorn free brave Sunrise.

Oh gosh. I just received my post and amongst the normal letters I have a beautiful card from Cat and Rabbit, the vets who cared for her and tried to save her. I'm in floods! But it is such a beautiful and appreciated gesture.

I am so sorry for your loss :( At least on here we can share the pain of losing our fur babies, as we all understand what you are going through x Massive ((hugs)) for you xx Popcorn free over the Bridge Sunrise, enjoy the green grass forever little one xx
