Hello,

Initially I made a post thinking that my pig had a bladder stone or sludge again. But it turned out worse.

I took her to the vet this morning and they did an immediate ultrasound on her. They saw an Ovarian Cyst. They were honest with me from the onset. They were worried that it was cancerous or that it could burst and suggested a full spay. I trust these vets completely as they seem to be knowledgeable with pig spaying.

I have trust issues a little bit with spaying girl pigs due to how my piggie Peaches was spayed and she unfortunately did not make it post op.

I’m stressed as I’ve just lost my Pumpkin just over a week ago and I don’t know how i will be if anything happens to Peanut. I’ve got all my fingers crossed for a successful surgery.

Does anyone have advice post op that could help?

Thanks ☺️

So sorry that you are in such a difficult situation.
I’ve had a few sows spayed and found the forum post op care advice very helpful.
Sorry - my tech abilities are somewhere in the Stone Age so I can’t link the guide for you.

I used old towels as a liner as mine were on wood shavings then.
I made sure there was plenty of Oxbow aniseed flavour Critical Care available and fresh bananas to mash in which was always popular.
I generally gave the piggy space to recover. Like humans they deal with anaesthetic differently.
Phoebe always acted as if it was the morning after a really wild party!

Praying that Peanut will recover well and speedily.

Look after yourself too - my go stress relief is coffee and chocolate

Unfortunately I’ve had the most awful news, when under anaesthetic they found that she had cancer on her ovaries. At this time she could not operate as it was too risky and she had a high risk of bleeding out. I had to make the decision to put her to sleep to not further her suffering as the cancer was highly spreadable. RIP my lovely girl Peanut

I'm so, so sorry. That's such a shock and it's SO hard when losses happen so close together. It's like you haven't even had a chance to process one loss before you are thrown into another.

((HUGS)) and I'm so sorry. Popcorn free, little Peanut.

HUGE HUGS

I am so, so sorry that Peanut's emergency operation didn't come off. What a bummer!
Please try to keep in mind that both you and the vet team were trying their best to buy Peanut more healthy and happy lifetime and that you have not failed her by endeavouring that. These things sadly happen from time to time but you can never foresee them.

Please be kind to yourself and give yourself space and time to not be OK for a little while as you have two deaths to process at the same time but you can only digest so much at any given time.

So very sorry.
Losing a piggy this way is devastating.
You gave Peanut the best life so hold onto the happy memories and be gentle with yourself as you grieve

It’s been a super hard time for me. I now have 1 piggie Pip left. I have now luckily found a little friend for her called Ginger. Here’s hoping for successful bonding.

All the best with bonding and I hope Pip likes her new friend.

((HUGS)) to you, you have certainly been through the ringer in the past few weeks. The only bad thing about pets is having to say goodbye to them. Thinking of you and Pip and Ginger.
