Sweet corn Treats

Hi everyone, just wanted to inform you that as my guinea pigs were out for playtime i decided to give them a sweet corn chew toy.
I watched as my guinea pigs chewed on it as digby (the one who got it stuck) started acting funny as if he was choking. I was worried but i wanted to see if he could get it off himself - after 30 seconds or so i realised her wasn’t getting rid of whatever so i picked him up and looked in his mouth. The sweet corn was stuck on his bottom teeth - he couldn’t get it off so i pulled it off carefully, this sweet corn was quite large and filled most of his mouth - this is a new toy i bought them and thought it would be great fun but apparently not - i’m not going to give them this toy anymore, just a heads up for anyone who has something like this as i didn’t know it would happen - i’m not sure if he would’ve got it off but my instinct was to help x

Thanks for the warning. You’re much better to give fresh corn on the cob as a treat. Mine love fresh mini corns and the sweet corn is so small, it won’t get stuck to the teeth

I’d avoid anything that hard and on a stick to be honest.

I am very sorry that you haven't seen our dangerous accessories and toys thread and have found the problem with the sweet corn the hard way.

Please be aware that sweetcorn is an 'energy dense' high sugar and fat treat in the first place. Rather opt for speciality hays and forage as treat if you want to give treats.

Pet shops keep offering a lot of unsafe and junk treats because that is where they make their money with - when it comes to treats most people suspend their common sense.
