Today I had my gorgeous guinea pig Marley pts. He had started going off certain food in February so he was under my usual vet for a while. I then took him to see Ellie the guinea pig vet in Matlock 3 times. He had 3 conscious dentals and on the second it looked like Marley had a dental abscess. Had 2 lots of strong antibiotics and strongest pain meds, gut meds could be on. Ellie was then on annual leave so I tried to get Marley in to the Cat and Rabbit Clinic Northampton but no appointments until 1 September and said can no longer offer conscious dentals. Marley was suppose to see Ellie again but he continued to lose weight and deteriorate, despite all my efforts with syringe feeding critical care and mashed up pellets throughout the day and night. It was sad to see Marley go downhill and unable to eat properly for so long. I felt happy when he could still eat grass but then he couldn't even eat that and it was like it got stuck and he would choke. I only had him just over 2 years as he was a rescue and didn't know his true age, possibly 3 plus, 4 plus. I feel sad but relieved my boy no longer in pain and struggling. He looked so peaceful. He is buried in a pot in our garden. We have another pig but they were no longer bonded but we're housed side my side in our house and had garden time together. I brought him along to the vets for company so they could say goodbye and let Gizmo be near Marley when we got home. Gizmo kept jumping into my arms after when we were on the garden but think he wanted to go inside and have his tea. I really tried my best to help Marley with all the constant syringe feeding over months and vets visits. Unfortunately, I could not save Marley. I have never experienced a dental abscess with piggies before but when we rescued Marley it was discovered he had an abscess on his body which we got sorted for him with our local vet. He was such a happy, cheeky boy until he got ill. I just miss him so much already. My sweet boy Marley. Gizmo is the long haired boy. Sweet dreams Marley you are and will always be loved. x❤️❤️❤️

I am so sorry you had to make that awful but kindest decision for Marley, dental problems are the worst of things, take care :hug:

Thank you so much. Yes it was difficult to do but I had to think of sparing Marley. Maybe I should have done it slightly sooner but I did it. Yes I agree popcorn high sweet Marley xx

So sorry to hear you lost your sweet Marley 🐷popcorn high baby, I lost my pinky due to abscess and overgrown back teeth, his eye was damaged and was falling over, not eating properly or drinking, I was gutted when he went to sleep but I’m at peace knowing he is no longer suffering. He is buried in my garden under a rose bush. He was 1 1/2, sweet boy whom will always be remembered and loved. Be kind to yourself as you grieve, big hugs 🤗

Thank you and so sorry you lost your sweet Pinky. I suppose we should think they knew love and were taken care of and that shows we are caring owners. Yes Marley loved being on the garden so he is buried in a pot close to the house as well. It just gives me a bit of comfort. We just miss them so that's all. Big hugs too. Take care.

Sorry for your loss. Marley was clearly a much loved piggy and all the decisions you made for his care came from a place of love. Sleep tight beautiful Marley x
 
I’m so sorry you have lost Marley. I’m sure he is very grateful for the love and care you gave him in his final years. You did your absolute best for him. It sounds like he was very happy with you.

Thank you so much. Marley was so scared when we rescued him but he soon knew we were taking good care of him and became quite confident which was lovely to see. xx
