Woke up this morning and one of my piggies has got a lump on the side of her face ( on her cheek) she seems to be eating and drinking ok but i am worried, think it may be dental/absess taking her to vets at 6pm tonight so wish her luck for me please! I always hate the vet trips x

Aw, hope it's nothing more than a bit of 'stored' food that may just need a rinse out :) Isn't cucumber good for piggies before a dental check or have I got it muddled ?/
Sending good luck vibes to your little girl, keep us posted :)p

Wishing her luck at the vet! Definitely good that you are getting it checked out. Keep us posted!

Unfortunately the vet couldn't drain it, she tried and only a little bit came out and my piggy, Baby white, was screaming in pain. The vet was really nice and said as the puss was solid she will have to go in for surgery tomorrow morning 8... really scared as I've never has a piggy go for surgery before. She said she will try to do it without putting her fully under but it may not be possible, so fingers crossed everything will be okay :(

Awww- poor little girl! Are they going to try to remove the abscess in one piece, or lance and drain under anasthesia?
ETA- she's super cute, btw!

She's back and in recovery! She ended up having to go under to cut it out as the stuff inside was hard and the couldn't drain it. She looks like a cross between a skinny pig and normal pig at the moment, but hopefully it won't come back seen as though they have got rid of it all and she is now on antibiotics.
Plus thats all my christmas money gone!!
thanks for supportxxx

Eek, she is just sooo sweet x)
Hope she has a speedy recovery, poor little mite must be a bit dazed and sore after her ordeal :(
Sending lots of healing vibes and gentle hugs her way :)p x>>

I'm glad she did well and is in recovery! My pigs have had abscesses lanced and drained and an abscess surgically removed... honestly, having the whole thing taken out worked much better. I hope she makes a speedy recovery! Isn't it funny looking when they have to shave them down? My piggie Linney is half sheltie, so longish hair especially at the back. She had an abscess removed from her lower back and it took ages for the fur to grow back to normal length, and she was very lopsided-looking until her shaved butt got fuzzy again! But interestingly, I did get to see that my brindle pig has brindle skin! LOL!

I'm a bit worried about babywhite she is not eating shall i syringe feed her and if so what and how?

I am sure someone with more experience will be along soon, but she will need syringe feeding if she refuses food. Can you soften some pellets with some boiled water, leave to cool then see if she will eat it? What about pain relief? Did the vet give you any to give her as she may not eat if she is in pain.

She's gonna be very sore, so that'll be what's putting her off, Liquorice had a very sore bum the day she had her abscess flushed and clearly showed signs if discomfort, but she was fine the next day.. maybe get her some painkillers?

right okay I will ring the vets in the morning I keep checking on her but she basically staying in the same corner all the time i have syringe fed her some pelllets and a bit or water twice already so hopefully if I do it again before I go to bed she will be ok until I can get her some pain killers

Will she not take cucumber crushed up (crush it to a pulp and syringe it to her)?
Defo take her back to the Vet..she may want to eat, but be finding it very uncomfortable to open her mouth, hence her reluctance, poor girl :(

yeah I have given her some and she did like a little but then spat the rest out but I think she is in pain, notes on guinea pig linx do suggest she is in pain, I can hear her grinding her teeth, so I am going to give her some infant calpol to keep her going through the night as I have read some posts on here that do say that you can give them 0.2ml of calpol in emergencies, ~I would rather try that and see if she starts eating than leave her with nothing to stop the pain all night

Ignore me! Didn't see the three pages of conversation! D'oh!
Glad to hear she got better...

Poor thing- how is she doing today? Did the meds help at all?

She seems a bit better today eating on her own, just little bits but at least she is eating, she is still quiet and has really fallen out with me at the moment but hopefully she will get better day by day, I will just keep giving her bits throughout the day to keep her interested.

really upset woke up to babywhite this morning looking really ill, closing her eyes in a ball in the corner I'm taking her back to the vets at 10:30 I hope they can do something for her :...

They have kept her for the day and said they are going to push some fluids into her and syringe feed her all day to see if they can perk her up better than me:(

babywhite is now on critical care I am syringe feeding her every two hours, she is spitting most of it out though, she doesnt seem to be perking up at all now, I feel like she is giving up, she has been at the vets all day, they have injected fluids into her skin and hand fed her all day, can't believe this is happening

You can only keep trying, the fact she's still here, means she's not given up just yet.. Hugs ((((((((((((((((())))))))))))))) I know how it is to feel helpless when you've done all you can, but the poor piggy is still really struggling XX

How much syringe food are you getting in per sitting? Keeping plenty of food going through the system is so important. Is she taking the food ok? Are you using a 1 ml syringe with the end cut off? When you say she is spitting most of it out, do you mean it is dribbling back out of her mouth? Is she swallowing it ok? Making the syringe food a little thicker can sometimes help if some of it is dribbling back out of the mouth. I do a lot of syringe feeding of piggies and I will do my best to help you.
