I don't see why not, just ensure its strong enough to hold the cage.

Yes, it can. I have had tables with cags on top in my ground floor cages for a dozen years now. I lift the tables with my shoulder so only one table leg at any time is just off the ground when cleaning and making up again the cage the leg is in.

How are your grids fixed to the ikea table Wiebke?

The grids are loose but I have cable-tied them to something long and straight from the hardware shop (preferably plastic or metal over wood to keep the cable-tied grids from buckling or going over the edge. Strategically placed angle brackets screwed into the table edges are holding it all in safely.

I have also lined the tables with Ikea plastic cupboard liners, cut to size and stuck together (overlapping with some duct tape or whatever) to protect the table tops. The liners will need to be replaced regularly every year or few years but they ensure that the table tops can be used for years and years. My Ikea tables are now well over a decade old.

I have similar IKEA tables. I put grids together to form a floor and cable tied them securely. Then the Correx goes in over the base and the sides are cable tied to the floor and to each other. There is a small overlap but the sides stay on. I put blankets underneath for insulation and to stop rattling noises during zoomies. The piggies can see out the window, which they seem to enjoy 🏡

Oh yeah, I had piggies who could see out the window and they loved that. When I had to place their home elsewhere facing a boring white wall they wondered at first. Stared at the wall... but it didn't change or move. Very disappointing I guess, but they got used to it.

I make my cages with a floor like @Truffolo . I don't use the connectors so having a floor makes the cage more rigid. It's also handy for moving the cages for any reason (mainly clean behind!), two of use can lift the cages with one each end. I have a cage on a home made table and also one on a double storey stand made of C&C grids.

I have a hinged panel over each piggy's bendy bridge hide in case one of them climbs onto the hide and jumps over the side and falls onto the floor. The hinged panel is fastened with a reversible cable tie so that I can open it to access the cage for cleaning.
