This morning Emmie started making a weird "hoot hoot" noise when she was breathing, then did a big sneeze and went back to normal. So we're going to the vets in half an hour.

I've never been to a vet, I'm taking her weight records with me but do I need anything else? Should I take my other piggie too? They've never been apart!

Hello and welcome.

You are doing the right thing in having Emmie checked out.

I have four piggies and when one goes to the vets, I always take a friend for company but as you have two, I suggest you take them both. Most vets will only charge for one consultation if you take more than one pig for the same condition at the same appointment. Please note, I can not be sure that ALL vets do this.

However, your vet will only check the other pig over if they feel the need too.

You do not need to take anything with you but if you have any questions, you could write them down so you do not forget at the appointment.

Good luck

I hope that it is just a bit of a blocked nose!

I always take a "paw holder" companion with me to the vets; that is a lot less stressful for the piggies than separating them, especially if you have only got a pair. You only get charged for the piggy that is being seen by the vet.

You don't have to take anything. The vets will examine your piggy and weigh it at the clinic to calculate any necessary medication doses even if you weigh them at home. If you have specific questions, you may best write them down before you go to make sure that you talk about everything that you want to.

We're back! Emmie is fine, the vet (who was very nice and reassuring) thinks that maybe it's her bedding. She doesn't have a temperature and her tummy and chest sound and feel fine. Thank you all for your advice, I took Lola along for moral support!

I use vetbed and really like it. You may like to use it. It is hypoallergenic which will not cause any allergies.
