As promised some more tales of our herd on holidays, although Easter didn't go as planned.

Firstly we decided on travelling partnerships and decided to split up the babies. First off we have Moon with the younger Midnight.

Then we have Star and baby Twinkle

Travelling down was no problem at all and we arrived at Rode fairly easily. We got pitched up and as the weather was quite warm and dry we set out the new expanded run.

:(|) Love reading your travelling tales and seeing pictures of your holidaying piggies :))
At least you escaped the cold and drizzle we had here over the hols :x

As you can see from the previous pic they quickly huddled under the old bird table cover while discovering the fresh grass.

Moon had to show Midnight what to do but didnt like being disturbed.

However Star quickly found her way round the tunnels (Twinkle is in there somewhere)

And a final shot showing car and unit.

Now everything did not go to plan, as the next day we visited Longleat and left 4 healthy piggies. In the late afternoon after we had returned we noticed Moon did not seem herself. So locating the local vet (Garstens in Frome) we took Moon to be on the safe side. Yes she had a recurring URI just appearing, the vet (Andrew Simons who was very good) duly treated her with Marbocyl and a probiotic. Rest of holiday was spent on short outings and caring for Moon (who was milking the attention) who after an initial loss of appetite was quickly munching fresh grass that was bought to her.

The one morning we had a lazy day without putting up the bed and had the piggies out. Twinkle and Midnight discovered a great game. Burying under the top quilt and racing each other underneath. They were quickly grabbed before there were any accidents.

We are now back and Moon was up the bars for breakfast this morning, although it will be a few days before she is back to normal.

Lovely pics! I am sorry about Moon's illness, but great that you have found a good vet nearby and could treat her straight away!

Aw, poor Moon - hope she's better soon :)
Love the chair, brings a whole new meaning to 'life guard' xx>>>

You are very lucky, I have one of those runs for my boys and all but one can jump out of it!

You must have very well behaved piggles!

Junior (who we lost in Feb) used to occasionally jump over, Star and moon both know they can jump over but decline too. They are usually more interested in how much deforestation they can do. But thats why the chair is there. It acts as a human defence against birds of prey and to snatch colditz piggies. (Sunshine used to be the one who would put her nose under the run and lift it before trying to sneak out.)

Aw, love hearing your stories, looks like a nice site too! We went away to our caravan at the weekend too, but because of the weather, the poor piggies didn't get to go outside, so i picked grass and dandelions for them instead and let them run around indoors and in the awning.

xx

It turns out the vets we used are the ones that cover the animals at longleat (and that includes their 19 piggies) and Andrew Simmons who we saw is actually a small animal specialist. He actually said his favourite small furry was piggies. It was the best examination I have seen (better than out own vet) as he gave a thorough teeth check, temperature, body etc. He also mentioned the marbocyl being given once a day with probiotic was less stressful than baytril twice a day.

Really impressed, runs the Trowbridge branch. Anyone from around there should check him out as a good cavy vet.

Great pigtures, thanks for sharing them with us. Glad Moon is ok, hope she recovers well

Awwwwwwwwwwwww looks like they are having so much fun on their jollyday :)

It's fascinating to read about your piggies travels, how you care for them and so on. Thanks for posting all that. I hope Moon is back to her usual self soon and wish you many more happy holidays.

Poor Moon (unusual name, I like it!) hope she gets better soon!

I am pleased to report that Moon followed the others out of the cage tonight to nab some treats (spinach and romaine lettuce). She seems to be regaining her strength as a result of adding fresh grass to cage. I think we caught it early as the vet said he could just make out a rattle and slight nasal discharge. Also had scales with us in van and she had lost 100g in weight so was straight to a vet any vet. (are we paranoid taking scales with us in caravan?)

Oh well HMRC can wait for any tax of me, vet comes first.

OH noooooooooooo sorry to hear about the emergency vet dash........
Really happy to read thru and find out that little Moon is doing well now thanks to your wonderful care x)x)x)x)

Nope scales essential ........ weighing piggies, piggie food...... oh and maybe some hooman stuff on the odd occassion -c
