Has anyone experience of this rescue? They seem to have lots of piggies available. I've messaged then enquiring regarding their process etc hoping to hear back there are some really beautiful pigs hard to choose haha x

Thank you for that :) I think I'm going to give her a call and head over there not the weekend coming the one after. They seem to have a lot of piggies on their fb page and all look in good condition.. I'll be able to tell more when I go. Just out of interest. How do you chose the rescues that you reccomend? I'm thinking it would be great if someone that okays the reccomendations went to have a look around as I said it looks as though there are quite a few piggies there and surely the more awareness of the rescue the better chance for the pigs? Just a thought. Thank you for the reply x

I'm going there not this Sunday coming the one after I'm very excited lol. The only thing I can say from initial contact with them is they haven't asked about my set up.. I know our set up is fine and suitable though but maybe a concern for other people who haven't done much research we'll see when we go. Now the question is Boars or Sows.. Ideally Id like a mixed pair but there doesn't seem to be many about probably because it means neutering the boars .

You could get girls then add a neutered boy at a later date.If you get boars it is pairs only really so if you wanted to add you would be restricted to boars or separate rooms for different sexes. To be honest you will just know which ones are right for you if you go in open minded.I have girls and boys.

Yep was aware of the 2 boars only and one boar to a couple of sows being possible, I read somewhere boars are often less skittish after puberty making them more handleable? I guess we'll see whats there there seems to be quite a lot of choice from photos on their fb page so we might be spoilt for choice lol. My daughter is going to be extremely happy when she returns off her holiday and we go over to have a look. She's been waiting years I think she's going to find choosing very difficult lol x

So just thought I'd give an update on this place as a rescue.
We visited today and rehomed 2 boars.
It's a lady that runs it from a garage in her back garden.
She had LOTS of piggies and rabbits of different ages and breed.
They were mostly all in pairs but some were in their litters still as younger but seperated by sex.
All the enclosures were clean and all animals had clean water bottles.
Admittedly the enclosures were small. I asked if they had regular access to grass and she replied that they did as they went in the neighbours garden (with permission) as they had some girls there that loved handling the animals.
All animals I saw were clean around the eyes/nose and bottoms.
I signed a document to say I'd be giving them spacious housing and a run..The only thing I will say is there wasnt any evidence asked for this nor did she want my address or anything ...
Over all the lady is doing a great job and although hutch space isn't hughe for them they are usually homed reasonably quikcly. my pair had been there a while and we chose them partly for that reason x
I'd say its definately worth rehoming from there the lady is doing a good job and does genuinley want these animals to g oto good homes x

I got my two boys from there as well, they were in perfect condition when we brought them home and already seemed pretty tame. I would agree that the cages were quite small but all the animals looked happy and healthy, so wasn't too much of a problem. Will definitely rescue from there again:D

I 'rescued' a rabbit from here. My feeling is that breeders in the area give her their stock they are wanting to sell. A lot of the rescue animals are 9months old and the breeds are quite specific (even had baby angoras in), so I don't think these animals are coming from unwanted homes, mistake litters (which are usually cross breed), they are left over breeders stock. I guess this is still 'rescuing' but is it also giving breeders an easy ride so that they can push their unwanted stock out and carry on breeding? I don't know.
The rescue was clean however with lots of food available.
I was not asked about living arrangements. Had no checks what so ever.
I was not told to neuter the rabbit
I was not told about bonding
When I took the vet there were multiple problems I had to sort out that were not told to me at the rescue , not that it would have stopped me getting it, I love my gorgeous bunny!

Were you asmed to sign an adoption agreement ?

History & Education – Tameside Rabbit & Guinea Pig Rescue

I recently adopted from there. I was not asked a single thing about how I was going to keep the piggie or asked to sign anything. I was given the piggie, gave her the money and left. I also forgot to ask about what food the piggie had been on so I had to text after to check - no change over food was provided. I had to take my piggie to the vets as soon as I got her home as she had a snotty nose :(

I had to sign something but she didn't ask for my address or anything. I do feel this lady is genuinely trying to help these animals and rehome them. A lot of time clearly goes into the website and I really can't see her making any profit. I do think however it may be a lot for the one lady to handle and I feel maybe she's of the view only responsible owners will rescue? Not sure though. How do you know some of the animals are inbred? My boys also had lice which meant an expensive trip to the vets when I messaged to let them know this (simply making them aware not asking for any money) I recieved no reply. On the whole I think the lady's trying to do good by these animals and maybe needs a little guidance from other rescues? X

When I got Daisy from Tameside a year and a half ago you did have to sign an agreement with your name and address etc. She also gave out a care sheet and was quite thorough. Me and my friend went to get her boy a new friend a few weeks ago and she was less thorough. From what we came to understand is that she is now overrun with rabbits and pigs as she feels she can't turn anything away. They do struggle quite a bit with the funding as well and are a less well know rescue. Yes the cages are on the small side but they are well fed, clean and cared for which I would prefer to them being neglected. She is also a lovely lady who tries her best. If she had some when I am looking again then I would certainly go back to Tameside.

Years ago I got a lovely little tortie and white sow from there who I named Evie (now at the rainbow bridge). She was by herself and proved to be quite difficult to bond but she was much happier after finding some friends that she liked. The lady there seemed to be nice and she even gave me a plastic small animal carrier to take Evie home in.

I rescued my boys from there, cant say i have ever recommend the place to anyone since. I was knew to piggy ownership and unfortunately found this forum after the piggies where already home. - she sent me on my way with three boars a bonded duo (one we have now sadly lost) and a younger boy around 10 weeks old who first met when she bundled them into a box.

safe to say we had many problems with the pigs when the younger piggy hit puberty. and ended up with him on his own for a while. when i got there i was shocked by how the animals where housed they enclosures although clean where very small, there where rabbits hoping around on the floor. she took my money asked me no questions about how they where going to be looked after, gave me no advice or change over food. i wasn't asked to sign any adoption agreement and never heard anything from her since.

I don't really understand how re-homing guinea pigs to anyone with the adoption fee is moral for a 'rescue'

Well the fee will pay for the maintenence and feeding of pigs and rabbits. I've only got the 2 and they aren't cheap she must spend a fortune on bedding and food etc.. all rescues take a fee...even the rspca..

Sorry I think you nah have taken the wrong view of my point, I'm not at all disputing adoption fees - of course they should be an adoption fee - my point was when I attended the 'rescue' she didn't care who I was, where I was from or how the piggies where going to be looked after and housed - all she asked for was the money.
