:'( :'( :'( :'( :'( yesterday our new rescue dog managed to force her way into our free range guinea pig shed, she killed Mitzy our favourite sow, and i had to prise Meggie out of her mouth, Meggie thankfully is now fine, but now Mitzy, our beloved girl, after suffering what could only have been a terrifying and brutal end,is popcorning around the rainbow bridge with her sister who died of pneumonia. i just hope it didnt hurt too much and it was quick, I'm so sorry my special girl :'(

i have to say,i do wish people would be truthful when it comes to rehoming pets,we were told she was fantastic with all other animals, and now because of 1 persons careless attitude (mine included i suppose as i left the backdoor open when i nipped upstairs, less than 1 minute but she still managed to kill 1 and attack the other) a beautiful young sow has lost her life, and we now are looking for a new home for our new dog, such a shame but she cant be trusted with either our guinea pigs who are (well we thought so) locked safely away or our cat :tickedoff: so maddening.

sorry again for allowing this to happen Mitzy piggy, enjoy your time with your sister now :smitten:

I'm sorry to hear about your piggy, that's awful.

Unfortunately dogs are dogs and I wouldn't trust even the most placid with my guinea pigs. It's not the dog's fault, sometimes instinct can just snap into gear - they see something small, fast and furry and they go for it.

So sorry for your loss in such terrible circumstances - it can just happen so suddenly. My terrier is the same - he knows in theory that he mustn't go near the pigs but if they move suddenly his instinct takes over and he honestly does not know what he's doing. Try not to blame your dog (easier said than done!). They can be taught - and I think they do learn that pigs are part of the 'pack', but if she's new then she didn't know any better.

RIP Mitzy pig.

Sorry to hear of your loss.

Where did the dog come from? If it was a rescue they should take it back.

Its so annoying when people cant be truthful.

RIP Mitzy

So sorry to hear about Mitzy. I love dogs but they can change personalities. My Monty was a terrier and he almost killed a hedgehog in my yard when I lived with my ex boyfriend. Try not to blame him, it's instinct.

oh i know its not the dogs fault,we rescued her but from a private home, shes a sight hound, and a big one at that, she forced her way into the shed,i never usually leave the back door open so she cant get out into the garden at all without full supervision,it just so happened that she took full advantage of the unfortunate situation, shes a great dane cross irish wolfhound, and her prey drive is awful, shes such a lovely dog with people but small furries, definately not! poor Mitzy pig would have been first to see her off,she was the boss pig of the herd, hence her being picked off first i think,Meggie was usually 2nd in command so it would explain her getting taken next, luckily i heard her screams and recued her, she was traumatised but tucked into a nice plate of apples and carrots this morning :smitten: hopefully the dog will be going to rescue tomorrow, and i will be giving a full and thorough list of her personality traits and warn them about her before i leave her :tickedoff:

Oh no !!!

Sooo sorry to hear this :o :( I cant believe someone would let a dog go knowing its not nice to other animals either >:(

R.I.P Mitzy :'( 0:) :smitten:

I'm sorry that this has happened when you were doing something lovely and rescuing a pup and now this.... good idea to get the dog put into rescue with all the information about her O0

well Mia our rescue dog is going to Halfway animal rescue today at dinner time, she will be spayed, vaccinated, micro chipped, and more importantly-properly assessed, before being rehomed to what will hopefully be her forever home :smitten: she is a wonderful dog, even though she did what she did i couldnt have seen her put to sleep :tickedoff:

Meggie still doing well, was out singing in the run this morning for her breakfast, i dont think il ever forget her screams and the way Mia was flinging her round like a toy,but she is one tough little piggy :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: she is back to her normal self and it seems is taking over Mitzys place as top piggy, the herd seem a little confused at the moment as Mitzy used to boss everyone around, now they seem to wander around almost aimlessly. i put Mitzys body in for them to see once i found her,and they gathered around her and started grooming her fur and singing to her whilst nuzzling her with their noses :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( ive never seen behaviour like it!

That;s beautiful, I've seen the chiriping or singing before in own of my own pigs who is such a naughty boy usually but when my Sheltie passed away he was singing away it was very comforting.

Good luck at the rescue

You are dealing with things very responsibly, if you dont mind me saying.
RIP Mitzy, you were very much loved....have fun at the bridge 0:) 0:) 0:)

I'm so so sorry. What a dreadful thing.

Perosonally I wouldn't want that dog anywhere near me ever again, but that choice is one for you.

well Mia has gone to the rescue now,and is specifically listed as very unsafe with any small furries, she has her own sofa and heat lamp while she awaits her new home.

Ahhhh ~ Well you just couldnt keep her if shes like that but i hope she goes to someone that dont have any small pets or children just in case O0

Oh and Kelspiggies i have just posted in the photo gallery some piccies of Milly, Lilly and ginny :D
