I am very sorry to say my baby Terry has got another suspected infection.

He has had a couple UTI's before, however he is now six and a half so it's taking a toll on him this time.

The vet did a urine test and there was a lot of blood. She has felt for bladder stones and cannot feel any however has advised he could have kidney stones or even renal failure. She would x ray him however feels he is not strong enough for this and would cause him stress. He wouldn't be anesthetised for the x ray but maybe sedated and this could cause issues.

I have been given Septrin for a two week cause to see if it is an infection. He has lost a lot of weight, and he was still small from the last infection he hasn't been able to gain weight from. So now he's extra tiny at 680g. I'm so scared this infection will push him over the edge :(

When Terry got back from the vets yesterday George was in a horrible mood and wouldn't stop humping Terry, but it was very aggressive - he was pinning him down and pulling his hair and George weighs about double Terry. It was also very hot and I could see Terry loosing his strength so I had to separate them for the night, for Terry's wellbeing. They have been re united today and getting along fine, were happy to see eachother again.

I just hope he's going to be ok.

Poor Terry :( Really hope it is an infection and the Septrin may shift it. Are you syringe feeding him? It may be an idea to help get his strength up a little. Will keep him in my thoughts x

Oh poor baby. I really am sorry Terry is so poorly. I hope he gets better soon.

Poor Terry! This long heat wave is extra hard on any piggies that are already under the weather or have underlying issues. :(

Please make sure that you keep him hydrated; perhaps keeping him topped up with Critical Care, too?

My Cariad is struggling with her weight (low 700s at the moment) and her ongoing bladder problems as well. We will be making a train trip to the specialist next week once it has stopped being quite as hot.

Fingers firmly crossed for Terry!

My Bumble has similar symptoms - uti that wont shift etc - in the end he was referred to a specialist called Rachael Mowbray (The official vet for the Kennel Club Team GB dog Agility - 7 pigs of her own & an exotics specialist ) an ultrasound showed a stone in the left kidney - due to the high risk of removing the stone / taking out the kidney he is being treated with 2mls of fizzy water 3 times daily,in the hope the gas will help push out the stone from the kidney ,syringe fed extra ordinary water, and fed on what she feeds 2 of her bladder problem piggies on ,which is vetcare multi-modal guinea pig food for piggies with bladder problems £5 approx. for 1kg bag and £1.90 postage from vetuk - you could always get your vet to ring her and they could have a chat= her name is Rachael Mowbray and she is at Vale vets in Dursley-
Bumble is hardly squeeking now although I have just dip stick tested his urine and it is still showing as having blood in it - hope this helps and that Terry gets better.

I am very sorry and sad to say Terry passed away yesterday morning :( I will post a rainbow thread once ready.
Love you Terry xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
