Has anyone one on the forum ordered a home test kit? Someone I know but haven't seen since before lock down has contacted me, to ask me if i know what the procedure is for obtaining and returning a home test kit from the NHS. They are elderly and live on their own. Does a courier drop the test off and pick up or is it all done the postal system? Many thanks

Thank you Lorcan, the lady in question asked me if it comes through the post or by courier and how its picked up, i looked on the NHS website and could not see anything about how its delivered and returned. I just wondered if anyone has had a home test so i could let her know.

There are a couple of ways now. The test you order arrives via Amazon. To return there are now two options. One is to take it to a priority post box (which seems to be queueing in a post office so it goes in their bag) as these are emptied several times a day. The other is to book a courier. You just have to take the test at the right time so it isn’t sitting around for too long before it is sent off but it explains that in the kit.

I’ve currently got 4 in the kitchen, I’m part of a study so now have to do one a week for 16 weeks 🤦‍♀️

Thank you @Tigermoth, I rang her to let her know, I think she was worried about people coming to the door, I told her it was Amazon and she is okay with that. Thank you for your help.

Well done for being part of a study, hope it all goes well.

Mine arrived through the post box by courier and was picked up via royal mail just before 8am the next day :)

Thank you @Emx93, I will let her know that it might be posted through her letterbox. She said that her symptoms started yesterday morning and they said the test wont be sent out until Monday, we think they are leaving it a bit late as Monday will be her forth day and she needs to take the swab either late Monday after 9pm or Tuesday morning. i don't know why they don't send it out Sunday? Do you know if the swab has to be done by Day 5 or its not accurate.

I took my swab on day 4, it was negative but my symptoms were fairly mild so I was pretty sure it would be anyway, I only really got tested because my daughter had been really poorly with possible tonsillitis/ couldn't rule out covid and we were already in isolation, ii don't know why they don't deliver Sundays it's a bit strange, I did my swab at 10pm :)
