Hi there

We keep buying Timothy Hay from Pets at Home and it occurred to me that this group of knowledgeable piggy owners may be able to recommend the best place to buy the best hay from. Appreciate your recommendations!

Thanks!

The best hay (in my piggies opinion) is from a Farm Shop if you have one local to you. This year's is particularly lovely hay. Do you know anyone who owns a horse? If so ask where they get their hay from. The main problem is storage as you have to buy a bale (as in farm bale). I have a couple of hay bale bags off of Amazon that I store mine in in the garage (where my 5 piggies are kept).

My favourite place for hay is Haybox.club. I get 20kg (15kg of meadow and 5kg of Timothy) on subscription. It takes up a lot of space in their shed and isn’t cheap but is such lovely green hay!

Wow I definitely wouldn’t fit a horse hay bale in my shed (where my piggies live). I’ll bear the farm shop idea in mind tough thanks x

Mine have now decided to complain if they are given anything except HayBox meadow hay.
I have 10kg every 5 weeks for 3 piggies

Also hay box fans here, we used to have Timothy but have now swapped to meadow hay it’s the only one the pigs will eat! We have a 5kg box delivered every 4 weeks.

@Betsy is right, this year's meadow hay is really nice. I get mine from an independent pet shop which sells hay from a local farm, and at the moment it's lovely and soft and fine. I buy my eating hay from The Hay Experts, orchard grass hay or their own brand Timothy hay which is also really green and soft.

I also really like haybox for Timothy hay but also by orchard grass (soft hay) from Timothyhay.co.uk for their litter boxes ☺️

I’ve got to put a shout in for Small Pet Select. You can buy it from Amazon and it always comes in 2 days with a smile or a ‘thank you’ drawn on the box. My boys LOVE the hay and it smells amazing!

Thanks I’ll look into this.

Thank you for the shout out! I’ll have a look.

Love Haybox but currently using dustfreehay.co.uk. I found with Haybox that their hay is a bit more dusty than dustfreehay but not by much. I feel I can say with confidence that DFH is actually dust free hay.

Another fan of Haybox here. I have a subscription of 5kg meadow hay every 3 weeks. I also buy the Oxbow Timothy Hay and Oxbow Orchard Hay. Yeah, my 3 piggies are spoilt having 3 different types of hay all the time. :D

Thank you everyone. One last question about hay. Our piggies have hay on the floor as well as for feeding (mainly for warmth as they are in our shed). For anyone that does the same do you have different types of hay?

Mine are also in a shed. i just use the same hay - meadow hay for bedding and eating.
When they have Timothy hay, they are just given a pile of it in a corner As Timothy hay isn’t soft enough for bedding (although I'm finding they are preferring the meadow hay to the Timothy now anyway).

Yes, meadow hay on the floor and the timothy and orchard hay are on the racks (only because these are more expensive 😁).
