Well i was soooo nervous about picking them up the little jumpy . Husband helped me out and even though they squeeled a little Denise had shown me how to hold and put down so no injury to piggy.

They sqeeked the whole time they were out their cage hit in some hay i put in a box on the floor lol.

I picked both of them up and put them back not as scary as i thought.

They wouldnt talk to me after that but bribary with lettuce and brocolli always helps lol.

Overall was not bad.

It'll get easier with time! Once they catch onto the ritual, it won't be much of a problem.

Perhaps, if you had access to some fresh grass or dandelion that hasn't been peed on by other animals, you can divert their attention with a treat while they are in the box? Guinea pigs are always greedy little guts!

it does get easier;)aside from Boris my piggy kids thought i was the devil for a few weeks lol, they started realising that with me comes food and now they love me, in the morning the wheek and wheek until there veges arrive and they let me hand feed them and also on there own according give me snuggles. In time your babies will love you just as much, as vickyt said to me when i was worried about whether Basil would ever like me short regular handling around ten mins eachtime.
P.Svicky i hope it was you that said that it was some time ago if it was can you repeat what you told me because it did work xxxxxx

When you pick them up, make a little ritual out of it.

I always say: "may I have a cuddle with you?" or "Walkie walkie", depending on what I'm doing. Try to gently shoo them into a certain corner or an upturned pigloo, so they know it's not random violence. When I put them back (even at the vets), I always say: "Are we going home now!", each with its own melody. I also picture what I'm going to do in my mind. Sounds whacky, but it works! And praise them like you would a dog! They like it!

After a month, my new girls now go into the "pigloo" carrier to be carried out into the run or wherever. As Nia has razor sharp claws and a VERY wiggly disposition that has prevented any number of scratches and uncontrolled jumps ut of my hands...

Pet them for only short periods at first, but talk to them gently all the time!

All the best; the first couple of weks are the most difficult, until they have sussed it all out!
