The little piggie is chewing on the big ones hair.

When I picked my two new pigs up last week the owner told me that the little one was chewing on my shelties hair so there were some short patches. Everytime I go to get them out I notice he has been doing it even more.

They are not fighting or anything, the little one is just 8 weeks old. Is this worrying?
 
I think what the little one is doing is called `barbering` and I believe it is perfectly normal, although I have not seen any of mine do it ;D

None of mine doing but LJ is right it is Barbering and not considered dangerous. Actually it's not proven whether it is because of dominance, jealousy or just boredom. Probably the pigs that do it are artistic piggies and want to give their buddies a haircut!

Hi yes it is called barbering its a sign of boredom ? Make sure they have lots of hay to nibble on through the night and give them some chew toys and gnaw snicks or something O0

They will stop it only when there not bored xx0

I am not sure why he is bored, he has hay, food, veg and toys :-\
 
mine do it to my long haired piggie, they seem to suck on bits of her hair... its actually really funny.... it only really happens when they get grass so munchkin has little green tufts...
 
I really dont think it is a sign of Bordom,I have a peruvian here that did it to his mum before i got them and he has now started on his brother,They have plenty of things to occupy them and he only seems to do it when he is out in the run
 
I have a group of 3 sows that live together and either Lilly or Lola have been doing it to Lottie, she has loads of green tufts after grass or just normal short patches. They deffo are not bored, they have mountains of hay, cardboard tubes, food, veg and a carrot holder. I'm don't think it is dominance because Lilly is the lowest in the group and she always has perfect fur i think Lilly or Lola just decided they want to become hairdressers.
 
You all dont no for sure if they are bored or not do you as they cant talk thats all I'm saying as they may not like their toys or something they may not be bored but they may be stressed or some other reason :(
