My poor Fudge has had a rough time the past couple of months.

She had a bout of horrific diarrohea, and light bleeding. They suspected an inflamatory gut issue, and even when it cleared up she just wasnt right.

A few weeks went by, vet trips, ultrasounds... She was in pain, and we didnt know why.

Fudge is in heart failure, has been for 13 months but her breathing and colour have been great with high doses of meds, so we knew that wasnt the problem. She has hairloss so one of the possibilitys was pain from ovaries, although they couldnt feel them or find them on ultrasound.. Despite trying 3 times.

I got up last friday morning and she was in her hidey, fluffed up and i just broke down. I couldnt cope with seeing her like that and i took her to the vets in a last ditch attempt to find the problem, as she just wasnt herself and i was starting to wonder if she had just had enough, the "decision" was on my mind as i didnt want her to suffer..

She was put on tramadol ontop of her metacam, and told to bring her back for a full work up.

Over the weekend the tramadol took the edge off, so it confirmed the issue was pain- but where from?!

Teeth where fine, ovaries couldnt be palpated or seen on scan so assumed not cystic.. No lumps or bumps in her abdo... The vet thought she may have been showing symptoms of arthritis in her spine due to the way she was holding herself and going to the toilet...

It turns out, she had a stone!

She is beyond lucky that it was at the very tip of the urethra/into the opening of her vulva, and she let them get it out there and then as well as giving it a good flush... Fudge cant survive surgery, so if it was anywhere else other than the tip it would have been game over.

She was such a trooper and despite being a little sore and swollen down below afterwards, the past 3 days she has been ridiculously bright! I'm pretty sure she hasnt slept yet.. Shes just been eating and shouting at me!

She does have slight arthritis in the base of her spine, but at 7.5 years old it isnt a suprise.. Her posture has since returned to normal and she is off the tramadol.

Hurray for my little superhero!

Ouch! Those stones look spiky! I'm so glad you've finally got to the bottom of the problem. Lots of hugs for you both! x

That is really great news - and must be a massive relief for all concerned that those stones are out. It kind of confirms one of my theories on stones that often they present with a gut change also - I have seen this more than once with my boys. So brilliant that you could just get them out without an op! If she was a boar (?) that would have probably been curtains - certainly been there :(. What an amazing old lady she is - go Fudge!

Poor Fudge has had a rough time recently. She is gorgeous and such a fighter though. Glad she is feeling better xx

So pleased, Fudge is such a trooper and a miracle piggy

I was wondering though, how come those stones didn't show up on an xray?

Fudge only ever has conscious xrays as she cant be sedated or anesthetised due to her being in heart failure.. So her xrays are always just from above which are fine for what weve needed them for.

The vet then decided to get someone gowned up and hold fudge on her side for a lateral xray as she wanted a clearer image of that spine..

It was then we seen her spine, hips clear as day.... Then this big white ball at the end! They showed me it before they told me and i was like is that a stone?!

Because of her posture and hunched painful position... It was tucked under her pelvis and hips so
Couldnt see it from above x

As Adelle has said, due to the fact she had conscious X-rays the stones were likely not shown as the positioning wasn't the best for diagnostics.

Calcium deposits in the end of the urethra are reasonably common, glad it's just this that's the problem.

Poor girl- I'm so glad she is doing well now! Passing those stones must have been a relief!

Wow never seen one before... bet they were very painful... so pleased she has gotten rid of them and on the road to happier pain free days ! X

Thank you everybody! Beyond relieved. Its the best feeling in the world knowing she isnt feeling that pain anymore.

If i could take all her other problems away i would, but she has defied all odds for 13 months so we already have so much to be greatful for xx
