Since Gus passed away last week, Darwin has been quite perky and cheerful, to say.

He spends all his spare time eating hay like it's going out of fashion, or Excel nuggets and is peeing fine, without pain. He'll leg it around the room if given floor time.

So, why the mysterious soft, tear-drop shaped poop? He's been taken off fresh veggies for a few days, which had no effect whatsoever apart from making him squeal at us. Not all of the soft poops have 'tails', I would say it comes in batches, with some poops being perfectly normal - but can't locate the source of the problem!

He's not excessively drinking or lethargic - he's very much himself in every other respect - bright eyed and strong. The only thing I can think to try is going to the vet and asking for probiotics, because nothing else seems to be the cause!

All help is very much appreciated!

I would second the thought of some probiotics, you could ask the vet to do a poop smear, i wouldn't at this point. If the veggies aren't making any difference I would just cut down. If the poo is smaller and mooshier it could be an absorption issue. I would up the hay. He may have a bacterial infection in his intestine. I would just start with the probiotics and see how that helps.

Thanks for the reply, wenton5. The poops are 'regular' size, just with tails on! It's mind-boggling. I've got no problems upping his hay, but he eats it constantly anyway so I'm always topping it up. I'll vet tomorrow and ask for probiotics, thanks again!

My boy had the exact same thing when he was recovering from illness last year, he had dental issues and therefor didn't eat only what i syringed and his poo's were normal with tails on...... See how he go's with a dry diet and some probiotics in his water.
