Here are the new babies
I'm thinking maybe Libby and Edie. They were on my name list I keep for a while
and they seem to suit them to me.
I asked a lot of people, looked through lots of Irish, Roman and Greek mythological names, even ancient Eqyptian and french names! But eventually just thought I'd pick cute names, I thought they'd go well with Lola and Sukie. And guinea pigs are so cute, they need cute names!
I'm thinking, Libby for the one with the white blaze on her face and with more red on her back, and Edie for the one with the black face and only a tiny bit of red.
They're so sweet and lovely. They're quite friendly actually.
My other pigs are very interested in them, but I'm not letting them live together yet.
How long do you think they shouild be quarantined for, any ideas? I was thinking a week or two, cos I can't wait for them to live with Lola and Sukie.
Any guesses on what age they are too? The woman in the pet shop said 5 weeks, but I'd say they're older, maybe 2 months or older? I guess I should weigh them to see.
It was not a terrible pet shop, the main bad thing is they keep rabbits and guinea pigs together. But other than that, they always have clean cages, they have hay and veggies, the animals seem healthy, oh and they know how to sex them and keep them separately! And the lady in the shop even told me to give them lots of veggies, to keep them separate from boys cos they're too young to breed, and she asked me did I have pigs and know how to look after them. She also showed me how to sex them though I knew how.
But . . . they had only been in the pet shop a few days, and before that were in with their brothers who were also there. So I'll be on the lookout for them getting fat . . . And they also have one or two bite marks each, maybe from the rabbits, but only tiny bites. Hopefully not mange! They seem quite healed though, so I think it's from wherever they came from. In that shop they mostly get given in unwanted guinea pigs, by the sounds of it. These babies are quite smelly and have urine stains and dirty nails, so I think they were in very dirty cages before they got to the pet shop
But there was nowhere else for me to get piggies where I live, and I can't travel up the country because I don't drive . . . but this pet shop isn't that bad really . . . I just couldn't resist buying them you know?
There was also a little smooth haired himi, but since I already had a himi who passed away last year, I didn't take her, even though she was beautiful x)
So anyway, hope you like the pics, and I'll keep everyone updated as they get bigger
(Oh and they are temporarily in one of those triangular hutch/runs, about 3'X2', til they can go in with Lola and Sukie. It's on concrete because they're not used to lots of grass and can't be on grass at night cos of foxes or anything. The hutch looks a bit dirty on the outside where my male rabbit was in there one time and sprayed it! but I assure you it's clean inside and nice and dry and cosy for them with loads of hay!)
