It's finally done! I was so upset I wouldn't get to move them in today with the ruined inco pads and then realised "hey! I've still got the towels!" Duh... :))

So in they went! There was lots of crazy popcorning from Mette-Marit and a bit of popcorning from Bo and a whole lot of eating from Martha :). They have all been up and down the ramp several times. They are so clever! The cave under the loft will be a firm favourite I sense :). The loft just lifts off, so it will be pretty easy to clean, hopefully!

The inside measurements are 160x75 (+the loft). I was afraid it would feel small and it does in the sense that it's harder to furnish, but it feels big enough for them and maybe, maybe one more some day :)

Now I'm gonna try to upload the video :)) (videos take ages to photobucket, though...)

That's beautiful! looks like a proper piece of furniture. Do you have a list of the materials you used any where? I love it.

I wouldn't recommend doing it to anyone... I could have done with a curse jar in the process :)). I live in Sweden so I don't think a list of material would help too much, but the crate is from IKEA, called Dilling!

I'm adding a curtain underneath so I can hide their hay and dirty laundry :)

I absolutely adore your cage! It's just beautiful and I had no idea about the inco pads (sorry)

Wow look fantastic, well done you!

I love the 'hay wigwam' i bet the pigs had lots of fun eating their way through that. :))

Oh, that's so two hours ago... :) I've solved that itty bitty problem now and they will probably be ok with a wash.

fantastic cage, I do like the perspex type cages that seems to be coming fashionable

Well, me and the pigs always try to keep on top of what's fashionable ;). I was debating with myself whether the perspex would mean bad ventilation but now that its done I feel fine about it.

I suspected that there may be some IKEA purchased parts somewhere, everyone in mainland europe who makes these amazing cages use Ikea stuff. It's quite frustrating they seem to be few and far between in the UK. I can imagine it was frustrating to make :))

Was just thinking... Can the piggies not jump out the hayloft?

I've been thinking about that too. They probably can, but they won't. The sides are 20 cm high (a little less because of the fleece in the bottom). This is lower than the 25 cm that's in the law for piggy cages (yes, there's a law here). They have never jumped out of anything that has not been safe yet. They stayed in their old hay crate (that's only 15 cm high) even if it was just on the floor. And the old pen fence was just 20 too and they never even tried to get over it even though it was on the floor. I think my piggies play it safe and that's why I feel the loft is safe for them. I will consider it again if they start hanging over the sides or so...

That's a work of guinea architecture. It's really nicely done and thought out, and the guineas look like they 'love what you've done with the place'!

It's fabulous, I daren't show my girlies or they'll be packing up and getting on the ferry over to you :))

The piggies and I love the new cage! I love that it's raised and the perspex sides. I see them so much better and I think they like seeing me too. Now I dont surprise them when I come.

They love the cave under the hayloft, I've seen them sleep with closed eyes there. I think they feel more secure under a big roof than what they do in little hideys.

I moved away the hidey from the side of the loft just in case.

Your new piggy palace looks great indeed!

My mezzanine lifts out as well; it is very handy for spot cleaning and picking up piggies!

I have put a towel over the top of my mezzanine floor to prevent the pigs from getting ideas; which was a great hit as piggies SOOO love their snugs.

A tent roof is a good idea! I will look into it... I will also need something to stop the hay falling out behind the cage. Always room for cage improvements, eh? :))

Your cage is genius! Congratulations, it looks really well made x)
I have to tell you that I'm very excited to see this thread because I've been considering building a perspex-sided cage for my pair for a few months now but the seeds of doubt were planted in my mind because I'd never seen anyone elses cage made in that way and I have struggled to get down to the 'nitty-gritty' decisions of what materials, what size and so on. So you've totally inspired me to get designing it and start building :)
Will be showing my partner this thread later - I sense a trip to a diy shop coming on...... :))
Thanks so much for sharing :) glad the piggies love it too!
xxxxxxx

Ooooo! I love it :) I don't know how I missed this when you first posted (well I do, not been on much!) but it is looooovely. Well thought out and executed!

I'm glad to have inspired you :). Do PM me if you want some useful "don't do as I did-advice". I have no plans for you to follow but may be able to help you avoid some of the mistakes I did... :))

OMG i want one for mine :) its lovely. I have to get the OH to sort his diy skills so he can build me one lol

I think you should try it yourself, us single gals manage just fine :)! If you never try you'll never learn... I love building stuff, but I've made a lot of mistakes in the learning process :))

What a fabulous luxury pad your piggies now have! I'm wondering if my girls are deprived. ?/
