I'm not allowed to keep them in MY room because they smell apparently. And i can only get another piggy if something happens to my two! My family also hate me spending any money on them! GRR! It makes me so angry. My sister also is ike'Ginger never had that sort of live so why should Spice and Honey' Well becauseeee i didnt know all that stuff until now. GR!

Blimey louise ure mum sounds just like mine she's always moaning at me that the floor needs cleaning or the windows the list goes on i've got a 18month daughter and a 3year old son (whos just started school) mum had 4 ov us all under the age ov 6 and her answer to everything is I managed (bully 4 her)
I love my mum to bits and would'nt change her for the world but they do go on i swear i wont be the same with mine lol

kath x :)

Louise, my two are 12 and 7 and my house is a permanent tip, not for want of trying,
as soon as it's tidy, something else gets dumped.

My OH is not an animal fan, so I can only have pets which live in cages.
Connor (son) had Harry in the front room and he was very unhappy.
He does let me get on with it though and doesn't whinge on.
He let me buy them soooooo :smitten: :smitten:

Kath, thank god I am not alone. We are talking again now, like you mum I love mine to bits but she drives me mad with her constant cleaning and whinging that I am not up to her standard.

Anne, thats like me I fork out for them so they are my responsibilty and other half can't moan about it!

Louise, i agree.
If there my piggies i should be able to do what i want with them .
Its up to me to feed , clean and buy them stuff!
I brought the C&C cage , built it. So what's it got to do with them?
Its up to you what you do with your animals - not theres!

I'm quite lucky - my family love my animals I think. I don't think any of them really understand why I have six pets, they're like "why do you need two guinea pigs and four hamsters? They take up more room in that bedroom on yours than you do!" but they love them and I know that ;) They will also buy all essentials (like dry food, hay, veggies) if I ask them to and they would take them to the vet and pay so that is good..my grandad jokes about eating them ::) but he's only joking so yeah ;D my nannan doesn't really care either way XD my other nannan looves them though lol, she's great O0

My mum is allergic to them but loves them anyway! She still holds them, but she has to have thick, long sleeves on. She is always to go sort "the boys" out! (from a family where my dad is out numbered 5:1 by human ladies, and all the pets are male(we didn't mean to pick 'them that way!)) She helps me with all the stuff that I need two sets of hands for (nail trims, etc.,) The rest of my family will care for them but not we any gusto! In winter they all help me keep 'them warm and fed! (It's chilly in the shed, and they can't come in as my mum's/one sister's skin reacts and it's not fair on either party! :-\)

Guinea pigs have a charm that captures your heart once you've had the pleasure of owning one, you will never be without one. :)

That just about sums it up :) My family, although all animal lovers, struggle to understand quite why I feel so passionately about pigge welfare. I'm so lucky that hubbie Marty is just as in love with them as I am and is quite happy to buy them all sorts of comfortable stuff to lay/sleep/toilet in ;D My wonderful in-laws, although not sharing our enthusiasm were quite upset when Blaze and Scampy died, especially my father in law, which is really sweet.

Awww! Lucky you! I have to buy all my piggy stuff myself!

All i'll say is it s up to you what pets you have, And its a known fact now that having pets builds up a childs immune system.

And just because you have guinea pigs how is that worse than having a cat or dog as they carry more germs, i was brought up with dogs and lots of other animals and i didnt get any problems with my health.

right ive had my rant :tickedoff: ;D

People don't take guineas seriously. Why?

I am sick to death about comments about barbecues/ vivisection etc. I have even had stupid comments by other people in the vet waiting room, who are supposed to like animals. One woman there told her dog how much he would like to chase and eat my guineas.

From now on my standard response will be: I am sure there are those who would agree with you.

Hi Lucinda,

That's horrible, how can people be so cruel? I'm a huge dog lover and I treat my pigguns the same way as I would a dog or any animal for that matter. Thankfully my family have calmed down now and mum bought the pigs some veg today! They don't agree with the amount I've got but thats their opinion as long as they don't upset me like they did the other day then I don't mind what they say!

Dad even called them Hammy's the other day! 98)

Some people just aren't worth bothering with ;D ;D ;D

The boys are adored by me and my family and that is what matters :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

I truly believe that the guineas, especially Cherub-Scarby 0:) helped my dad get over cancer last year.

Glad to hear your Dad is doing ok! Yes I agree, my pigs also helped me get over my Grandad's death. I wouldn't use them as an emotional crutch but it gives you something to focus on.

Those that don't have them don't understand!

We have five piggies, all girls, and they are truly a part of the family. The kids adore them (but guess who does all the looking after ::) although I don't mind cos I love them so much)

OH is not so keen, wouldn't hurt them and thinks they're sweet but "why the hell have we got 5 bleeders?" ;D "Two's plenty".

Like you Sunshine and Twinkle I'd have another five given half a chance lol

My mum loves them and often brings veg for them, always goes out to the run or hutch to see them and is an absolutely star when we go on holiday, we take the hutches round there in the trailer and she looks after everybody for me!

I felt really chuffed today, my neighbour who i adopted Ollie from (hamster) came by to check on him i wasin the garden after scrubing the buns hutch form top to bottom i started on the piggies.

Bless her she came by and said everytime she sees me she wants to give me a hug cos she thinks i'm so sweet for what i do for all my animlas how i take care of them, really made my day to get such a nice compliment :smitten:

He does it to wind me up! I'm very close to my Dad but arghhh he infuriates me...lol Tonight he comes in chewing gum and I just hate the noise of it. I end up screaming! He does it all the more so I call him Violet from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as she chewed gum and went huge! :D

That will teach him for calling my pigguns Hammy's! Maybe I should get some and do his head in! >:D

Kezza, thats great. I mean we don't do this for thanks but when someone appreciates what we do it means a lot. :)

When I had my first 2 girls my OH and son weren't that keen but now my OH has come around to them and my son loves them. We now have 4 girlies. My mum absolutely adores them and my dad says he's not fussy on them but he's in the middle of making me another hutch and they are getting me another 2 guineas for my birthday in November. The hutch is nearly finished and I don't think I can wait until November for more piggies.

My dad is such a softy at heart, I was so worried about keeping the hutches in the garden through the winter he said for me to go out and buy a wooden shed for them and he would pay half, so they are all lovely and warm in their own shed and spoilt rotten.

I absolutely love, love, love my guinea pigs. :smitten: I had my first 2 in June, I've never had them before but I couldn't be without them now. I sometimes think that at the grand old age of 35 I've got a screw loose! I am so lucky that my family understands my addiction! :smitten:

I get this all the time when taking my rabbit to the vets, especially from those who have dogs who are notorious for chasing rabbits, i just kind of smile and nod and don't say a lot. Some people don't realise how insensitive they are, it is only a few of us who have tact ;D ;D

your response should be.... go on ahead and try it, dear... theres no point being ignorant unless u show it! ;D

I'm really lucky my oh is as animal mad as me. we have 7 guinea pigs, 2 cats and 2 rabbits. My mums a big animal lover and has more than me, shes always fussin over my animals and brings my piggies dandelion leaves from her garden. My oh parents even bought us some turf for the piggies and planted it in trays so we can have it on our shed roof as wev only got a back yard. some of my mates and my sis think I'm off my head tho. My oh does sometimes say hes going to have to dress up as a guinea pig to get some attention off me!!

My mum said I only got pregnant as a teenager, was because she would not let me have a budgie... I have a phobia of anything with wings, so I hardly wanted a budgie.
I will say if it your parents house then it is your parents rules, did you get them with out consulting your parents first?
If it is your house then evict your parents!

My oh loves them he is as mad about them as me and has never once questioned anythink i do for them my mom likes them but when she comes to visit says you will never get your house straite with all these animals my friends at work definatly dont understand they think i am mad and when they see how they are treated and what things i have put in the cage they give me funny looks but i dont care they make me happy :smitten: :smitten: x

::) ''If it is your house then evict your parents!''

I like it! My parents love animals but we only ever had budgies.Did have a Border Collie once called Moss but he attack me,biting my face. I still love dogs, but weary of strange dogs!My hubby ok,he wouldn't be happy if I got more! Have 3guinea pigs,2 rabbits, hen & budgie!

Well it's really only my mum and i that are totally obsessive with pets :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
we will do anything for them, lack of sleep, shop for foods anywhere you name it... mum even thought one time she'd have to teach our little puppy how to wee like a real mummy dog would (they lick their parts.... LOL the vets said NO just wet their parts with cotton wool and that will stimulate them) but the rest of the family adore our piggie but don't worry about vet appointments or any other things now.
It's hard i have to hide how much i spend on Duke ::)
Only thing is my OH (Allan) does not say a word about me getting up during the night, he's not dare ;)
But today both the sons were giving him hugs and kisses ::) ::)

I was rather mad today, a relative came to visit from overseas and she wanted to see my pets, and as she went to my pet corner my sis was like "Don't go so close they are smelly!" I was like :tickedoff: THEY ARE NOT SMELLY !

OMG Guinea Pigs are so clean they do not smell! Granted the Hay can smell a little but I never have a problem with Cuzzy in the living room! My Nan said similar, she also said if a health visitor came around (yeah right, they never do now Caitlin is 2) then I would be in serious trouble for having pets in the house! 98) Well it is my house and if I want to be like Lucy from 64 Zoo Lane then I will! ;D

Ugh I can sympathise with this, my parents are excactly the same.
They dont seem to realise that I dont just want them to survive, I want them to be happy and healthy.
I guess my parents are quite lenient about them being in their pen indoors for an hour a day, but they refuse to get good quality food, bedding, or anything. They wont let me give them a big cage and I'm not allowed them in the shed until fireworks night. Theres not much I can do and its probabaly the same for you. Just remember that you love them and you're giving them the best life you can, even with everyone else trying to stop you.
