Just adopted two neutered boys from Honeybunnys!
They're called Dermot and Sean. I'm so smitten already! Dermot is huge! they've got such cute little faces! Pigtures soon, I just want to give them a couple of days to settle in. I've left them in their carrier in their new cage with the carrier door off so they can get in and out and explore in their own time.
Any tips for helping them settle in? they've got plenty of hay and food and its nice and quiet for them as they are upstairs in a spare room until 3 weeks time when we can put them with their new wives!

Try not to pick them up for a while so they don't get scared and just talk to then so they know aren't scary.

:smitten: :smitten: they sound lovely! Erm.. i havent got any tips about settling in, i just leave them to it, i think pigs adapt quite quickly to new homes :) cant wait for pics! x

I was going to give them a few days before i try to handle them. They've had a scary day what with car journeys and lots of new voices and smells and sounds. :)

Aw bless, can they see your other pigs? I think this helps, all the ones ive got from babies and put in with older ones have taken food from me straight away and not been scared, whereas the ones who have only had other babies for company have been terrified, its as if the other pigs have told them that i wont hurt them :) and its safe for them! x

hi grommit have you got a website address for them please?

I adopted 3 baby sows from them they are adorable

aha well i was told to keep them away from the girlies until its safe to introduce them (they've only been neutered a week) as if they can smell the girls they may fight with each other. The lady said they have been grumbling at each other a little anyway so didnt want to risk having to split them from each other before the 4 weks are up and they can go with a lady each.

They are still sittin in the cariier so i'm off to chop them some veggies to scatter about the cage to entice them out. :)

;D oh right yes you're best keeping them away from the girls then :) ive only ever had girls and one neutered boy so I'm not very good with pairs of boars :) x

They've just taken some carrot from my hand! snatched would be a better term so still not completely happy with me but i guess this is a good sign! hopefully they heard my girls wheeking at the top of their lungs when i opened the fridge too! :)

how long ago was the op? I wouldnt bed them on hay for a while just incase it catches the wound, pop them on some towels, vet bed or fleece so its nice and soft on their bits (or not as the case may be ) pop hay in hay racks etc so they can still munch. If the op was a while ago then forget all what I have just said ;)

Congrats I am sure they will be very happy with their new wives O0

Thank you! they are on vetbed at the mo but their carrier is stuffed with hay and vet bed because i wanted them to feel safe on the way home. They are still hiding in their carrier do you think i should lift them out gently or just leave it in the cage for them? they also have a house in there for them. There is space to put their other house in too (when the carrier isnt in there). Their op was just over a week ago. I dont want to scare them but the carrier will have to come out at some point!

I dont think i need worry both boys running about and wheeking at me when i took hay in for them! Sean is so inquisitive, on his back legs stretching to smell me and see what i was doing! I'm in love! ;D

Hello was great to meet you..and your dad!
glad the boys are settling in...as you've already found out they'll do anything for food!
pictures would be great..I expect their ex foster mum, Karen, is missing them so will love the update!

Hello! was lovely to meet you too, although i was very excited about getting the boys home! They've been fine overnight, Sean was popcorning when i checked on them this morning! Gave Sean a quick cuddle as he seemed so bright and cheery! Dermot's hiding alot but he lets me tickle him behind his ears and happily takes any food i have to offer! ;D

cute. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Hello Sean, hello Dermot, you are looking very handsome :smitten:

Have they eaten you out of house and home of hay yet?

Hello! The paw print vetbed is from e-bay, its called vetbed on e-bay but i'm not sure whether it's the real one or not. we ended up buying a huge roll of the stuff cuz it works out cheaper than buying squares of it but cost us a fortune initially! So woth it though, its fab stuff.

As for the boys they are eating lots of hay and have fished out all their food from the mixture of the food Jill gave me and the supa guinea excel i'm using! lol! picky little sweeties! what was their fave fresh veggies? They dont seem too fussed about cucumber and wouldnt touch the baby toms i gave them yesterday! They've had kale, coriander carrots and celery today of which they've eaten the kale and coriander!

Hi
Your cages look great, very cosy! :)

Do you just put the vetbed in the washing machine?

Sam

Yup the vetbed goes in the washer in a pillowcase with a big knot in the top every three days and i spot clean every day to remove poops with a dustpan and brush (taking the piggies out first of course!). well worth the little extra work, would never ever ever go back to woodshavings! :)

Sounds silly but what is the vetbed made from? is it just thick fleece? does it have a waterproof on bottom or something? lol

I'm not entirely sure what its made of! it's fluffy topped thick pile fleece I suppose you could call it? mine's non slip so its got ridges of plasticy type stuff on the bottom which is great because Alice has to be under everything and she cant get this up (and trust me she tried)! ;D
