She's nearly 15 weeks old, i posted another thread about her doing more teeth chattering the last few days and now I'm suspecting that she may be pregnant, and wonder if the teeth chattering could be related to pregnancy, she's also tried to nip me a few times tonight too ...I have only just started successfully handling her and Diesel, so I haven't had a chance chance to weigh them yet, but Pinky seems to be getting very wide... I'm obviously going to consult a vet as soon as I can, but wondered what other signs I should be looking for. I made the mistake of buying them from pets at home before I found this forum, so I'm aware that she could have come into contact with a male.... I haven't had them checked, but looked myself and I'm pretty sure Diesel is female too.

If she's not pregnant, could it be bloat.... She's not overly active compared to Diesel.
I'm worried maybe I've caused that by over feeding her kale as I've only just found out you shouldn't give it every day... Is there an easy way to tell if your piggy has bloat, or is pregnant, or maybe even just too fat!?

Any chance you could post a picture of both pinky &diesels genital areas- if they are good clear photo's members on here will be able to sex them pretty accurately for you.

Does she seem in any discomfort? Or if when u tap her sides does she sound hollow? Gone a bit squishy like a hot water bottle? As these can be signs of bloat.
Is it possible to get her to a vets to check her out for you? They will be able to confirm if she's pregnant or not &be able to give you a diuretic etc if it is bloat.

would cut down on veggies for now &just give hay until confirmed if she's got bloat or not. Try not to give too many pellets in case she is pregnant you don't want the babies getting too big,too quickly on nuggets.
Kale is fine as an occasional treat in moderation, but not if this is bloat.
If you look on the vet locator at the top, recommended gpig savvy vets near you can be found.
Bloat &pregnancy needs completely different treatments/diets so would try a vet visit ASAP
...bloat can quickly go out of control.
Hope your little one is 100% tip-top soon. Xx

If there is the slightest chance that this could be bloat it is best you get her to the vets, it can be brought on by excessive amounts of veg. If it is gastric bloat she will need gut stimulants and massage therapy, if it was fluid bloat she would need diuretics. How is she behaving, does she seem in any pain? is she eating? has her distended abdomen come on gradually or all of a sudden?

It's not easy to tell if a pig is pregnant in the early stages, later on you can feel the babies moving. Pregnant sows can get a be irritated and may not like you touching their belly, so they may nip, but that can be a sign of other discomfort too, like mites. I agree with Helen, that if there is any chance of bloat you should get her to the vet asap. Bloat can kill if not treated promptly. If it is bloat there will be pain and the abdomen will feel hard. Hope you get it soerted out.

Rang my local vets, I asked if they had anyone who was used to dealing with guinea pigs and she has told me that I would want to see the principle vet who is at the walk in clinic tomorrow and Friday. If it's possibly bloat, should I take away the veggies and pellets?

Not the pellets but yes to the veggies. Does her abdomen sound hollow if you tap it? Is she eating ok or moping about?

She is eating and drinking... seems grumpy, and a bit agitated when being held for too long, but I don't know if that's just the way she is, or if she's in pain (she's very quiet, not heard her make any noise yet, all the squeaking and squealing comes from diesel! ) as I've only had her and been handling her for such a short time

Thanks.... I tried to have a feel of her belly tonight, she seemed less agitated tonight, her belly is soft to touch, ( I tapped to see if was hollow sounding-and I don't really hear that) and I tried to get photos to see if anyone could tell their sex, but it was hard to get a photo. The brown piggy is Diesel and the grey is Pinky.
If they are both female, I've only had them for 3 weeks so I suppose it is still possible for pinky to be pregnant if her other cage mates in the pets hop were male.

They look both female to me!

Pregnancy is always a possibility with a pet shop. You have to count 10 weeks from the date you have got them as the last possible date they could have got pregnant although you will usually know well before! But you also need to make sure that there is no other reason for her symptoms.

A pregnant sow will usually start developing a belly from about halfway through her pregnancy although that alone is not enough to diagnose one; specially over the internet! As a newbie, you can usually notice during the last third of the pregnancy whether a sow is pregnant - this is the time when the babies will really grow and become visible balls, and the weight gain is really taking off.
We have got detailed information on all aspects of pregnancy at the top of the pregnancy section. If you sincerely suspect that pregnancy is an option, you are welcome to open a threat in the pregnancy section for advice and support.

Thanks. I was hoping to get to the vets this afternoon, but had a bit of a mini crisis with my daughter, so taking them first thing in the morning.
Managed to weigh pinky successfully yesterday, so I'll now be able to keep an eye on weight gain too.

At least it doesn't sound like you are dealing with bloat, so it is more likely that your girls are either just growing or potentially pregnant. Please be aware that a vet cannot confirm a pregnancy safely at too early a stage, either! More often than not, it comes down to a waiting game. All the best for the trip!

Saw the vet today. Definitely not bloat..... Confirmed they are both sows.... Thinks that Pinky is just fine and if she had got pregnant before I bought her ( nearly 4 weeks now) he thinks it is likely we would have been able to tell by now.... Think she's just a wee porky piggy!.... Thanks for your support everyone. X

I hope for Pinky and you that she is just a chubby girl!

So glad it wasn't bloat and fingers crossed she's just a little gready guts.
