Hi everyone I'm new. I live in East Anglia with my husband and two adorable guinea pigs. We keep them inside and give them loads of hay every day, vegetables, dry food... And fresh grass, they love eating grass. Whenever we go out to the garden they start making high pitched squeaks demanding grass. My husband can't resist these and keeps feeding them a bit of grass everyday... even very chilled/frozen grass at this time of the year! From the frozen garden to their bowl. The guinea pigs eat this but I'm concerned... this can't be healthy? My husband says I'm being silly, there is nothing wrong with frozen food, everybody eats ice cream and survives and blablablah.

Please tell me if there is any reason the pigs shouldn't eat frozen grass. Thank you so much, this is causing a lot of friction and I'm feeling a bit sad at the moment :(

I stop giving grass as soon as the frosts start I have no idea whether it is good or bad for piggies but my thinking is it would chill their stomachs and also when the grass is frozen it alters the structure of the plant so the nutirtional value may be impaired. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Most guinea pig reference sites say not to give frozen food i guess it would count for grass i have no i dea if this is a good alternative but many feed their piggies readigrass

Could you not pick the grass anyway, and leave it until it's defrosted (won't take long) and then give it to them?

Yes Sue, that's what I usually do, and it does not take long at all.
I'm only concerned about the grass they get from my husband.

I dont think it would do them any harm really?
I'm sure any guinea pigs that live outside year round survive fine on a frozen breakfast :)
