Why do you think boars should be allowed to father one or two litters?

It isn't necessary for their health or their wellbeing and allowing them to mate can sometimes make it more difficult to pal them up with another boar or even if you neuter them, a sow. So at the end of the day you really aren't doing them any favours

That's aside from the baby guineas you introducing into a world already overpopulated by guinea pigs.
Just my thoughts and something for you to perhaps think about

I know it is a change of subject slightly, but i have just gone on to another forum i like to frequent is a breeders forum and it made me feel sick actually the number of guineas that are being put out there, before i joined this forum i couldn't see any real harm in breeding I had even wanted to become a breeder,
But this forum has educated me to a very very different point of view .

I was wondering that, too..
Why on earth does a male piggy having a partner mean that there has to be a litter or two?
Have them neutered, stick some girls in, the males are still happy and mount the girls, but no babies..
they dont realise they are neutered, they still try to get on top of the ladies!

But another question: Whats that stuff about a boar eating the babies if they are male? 98)
Thats something I have NEVER heard of. Why on earth would he?
We are talking guinea pigs, not lions..

we had a boar in with some babies once and he never ate the males,in fact he lives with the males now ( which are his sons anyway)
they dont eat them
