Junior Guinea Pig
Although I feel very blessed to have had such a wonderful angel in my life, Scuzzy was a very old and ragged piggy when I got him. Although it broke my heart when he passed on I will never regret the time we had together and I know the relationship we had was truly special and I'll never have anything so wonderful again.
That being said, I missed having a pig in the house. I did not want to experience the anguish of dealing with a neglected animal someone just wanted to get rid of again so I now have two young piggies. They are nothing like Scuzzy!
Scuzzy would purr when he was happy, but he never once popcorned. I'm not sure if it was due to age, or that it would've hurt his old joints too much, but it was something I always wanted to see in person. With Dahlia and Iris it happens a lot; Dahlia really goes nuts while Iris lets out a few hops and she's done. They love it when I clean their cage or give them food (More so with the food. Heh.).
Scuzzy would beg for veggies whenever I was near the fridge and would not stop until he got some, while the girls do it whenever they hear a bag crinkle. They are so loud it's crazy, but thankfully they quiet down fairly fast even if they aren't given any.
I almost wonder if these ladies are part ferret. They really stretch out their bodies and will stand on their hind legs, using the cage for support when they want to look around. They look so skinny because they really stretch as far as they can go! Scuzzy would stand on his hind legs a bit but could never match the girls' height!
Nothing made Scuzzy happier than snuggling with me. He'd actually want to do this for up to two hours at a time, taking long snoozes or just relaxing. We actually took naps together! I'd place him on my chest and he'd lay under my chin after I'd get home from work. I really miss that.
With the girls they're still adjusting. I don't ever expect to have a nap buddy again, but I really hope they'll eventually like being close to me the way Scuzzy did. I have gotten Dahlia to do the eyes opened sleeping but Iris still seems unsure of me. She'll sit and let me pet her but she isn't showing the same trust as Dahlia.
I have to admit I'm also a little nervous about the two having spats. I get that they do have to sort out who is more dominant, but even though I make sure they have plenty of food, room, and places to individually hide, I just can't help but be a little afraid. It is the main reason why I chose ladies, though; boys are just way too scary.
It's pretty amazing all the things pigs do just shortly after you get them! I can't wait to see what else will happen!
