why do piggies need baths? they don't get that dirty do they?
My piggies are really clean and i can't ever imagine needing to give them a bath, so whats the reason?
Sorry if I'm being an idiot:red

Mine get dirty they wee on one another, and stink :)).

It's good for there coat... makes them shiny and for instance if they have a fungal infection they need bathed!

i have 2 white pigs who end up looking grey and yellow :( they have long hair so get poo stuck to them and like to lie in their litter trays in the wet hay!

Too many baths are not good for piggies, but eventually, they do get grubby and smelly; longhaired quicker than shorthaired ones; rough haired piggies more than smooth haired breeds.

Depending on the breed and the amount of grubbiness you bathe about between 6 months to 2 months.

Its good to give them a bath at least once a month. So my vet told me on Friday, he said its good for their skin and can help keep their coat/skin healthy.

He also gave me some hibiscrub as they had a slight fungal problem, i had to bath them every 2 days and it didnt do them any harm, in fact their coat and skin is superb now.

He also told me that it wouldnt do any harm to keep using the hibiscrub and wash them in it every 2 weeks or at least once a month. He said you cant really over do the hibiscrub as its good at keeping any fungus away. So from now on i shall be using hibiscrub to bath the boys in, i like the smell and the boys coats are fantastic, very shiny and smooth. The vet even said they could be show pigs as their coats were so soft/shiny.

I noticed that you can hibiscrub in boots for £7.99 its the same as what the vet gave me so i shall be buying some when i run out.

:)

I know longhaired guinea-pigs need baths more often than shorthair guinea-pigs. I have had shorthaired guinea-pigs my whole life and in April I'm hoping to get my first longhaired guinea-pig, a baby sheltie. How old should she be when I give her her first bath and how regularly after that?

Thanks for your replies everyone. My 2 piggies are quite short haired so probably won't need regular baths but if i notice them getting smelly i will bath them.
